Lyle Roger Manthe was born August 27, 1941 in Mankato, MN to Arthur and Viola (Precht) Manthe. God called him home on March 31, 2007. He was baptized into Christ on September 14, 1941 and confirmed in faith on May 29, 1955 both at St. John's Evangelic Lutheran Church, Alma City, MN. He attended Dr. Martin Luther High School, New Ulm, MN and in 1959 he graduated from Pemberton (MN) High School. In 1959, he moved to Twin Valley, MN and started farming with his family and later met Rosella (Chamberlin). They married June 9, 1962 at Wild Rice Church rural Twin Valley. They made their home near Twin Valley where they raised four children, Todd, Brenda(Burke), Scot, and Beth (Sagedahl).
Lyle enjoyed farming, spending time with his children and grandchildren, singing, and worshiping in church. He enjoyed collecting antique "treasures", working on projects with the family, reading and memorizing want ads, working in the shop, riding four-wheeler on Sunday afternoons, deer hunting, and just being outdoors.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. We will always miss his smiles, hugs & kisses, singing, his outgoing sense of humor and willingness to help others. Lyle and Rosella are members of Calvary Lutheran Church, Ulen, MN where he served as president for many years. He was a regular delegate to the annual Evangelical Lutheran Synod conventions.
He is survived by his wife Rosy Manthe, rural Twin Valley, MN; four children; Todd Manthe, Twin Valley, MN, Brenda (Mike) Burke, Ada, MN, Scot (Kris) Manthe, Fargo, ND, Beth (Greg) Sagedahl, Twin Valley, MN; nine grandchildren, Jessica, Justin, Brittany, and Brandon Burke, Bryce, Blake, and Kylie Manthe, Jaden and Tate Sagedahl; three brothers; Ronald (Marion) Manthe, Benton Harbor, MI, Dale (Janet) Manthe, New Prague, MN, and Dean Manthe, Watertown, WI; one sister, Janice (Robert) Westphal, Janesville, MN; five sisters-in-law, Grace Machler, Boyd, WI, Idabelle(James) Buskirk, Minneapolis, MN, Ruth Chamberlin, Coon Rapids, MN, Linda Maresh, Bloomington, MN, Carolyn (John) Brewster, St. Paul, MN; brother-in-law, Clinton (Wendy) Chamberlin, Williston, ND, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Viola Manthe and a nephew, Willis Westphal.
Memorials are preferred to Calvary Lutheran Church, Ulen, in lieu of flowers.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30AM, on Thursday April 5th, 2007, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Ulen, MN. Visitation will take place at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Ulen, on Wednesday, April 4th from 5PM until 7PM, with a Prayer Service beginning at 6:30PM. Visitation will also be one hour before services at the church on Thursday.
Interment will be in Calvary Lutheran Cemetery, Ulen.
