Obituary

Lyle Fjeld, age 69, of Gary, MN, died Saturday, September 21, 2019, at his home.

Lyle Dean, the son of Clifford Sr. and Iris (Stuhr) Fjeld, was born on December 10, 1949 in Mahnomen, MN.  As a young child, Lyle attended Gary and Ada Elementary Schools, later moving with his family to the farm in Faith, MN.  He attended his high school years at Twin Valley High School.  Lyle, along with his parents and siblings, were no strangers to hard work, raising crops and milking cows.  When Lyle was 16, his mother passed away as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.  Pulling through this tragedy drew the family very close and they remained strong in their faith in the Lord.  Lyle attended Detroit Lakes Technical School in 1968 and proudly received his degree in auto body.  Shortly thereafter, during Vietnam, Lyle knew he would be drafted so he voluntarily enlisted in the United States Army.  After serving active duty and in the Army Reserves Lyle was honorably discharged in 1975.  Through mutual friends, Lyle met Carrie Sundet, and they married in 1976 at Ness Lutheran Church.  They proudly built their home in 1978 and began their family.  Lyle spent most of his years driving gravel trucks, as well as working for Carrs Tree Service.  He also served as a Handi-Van driver for a time.  Their children, Tim and Trisha, were his everything and Lyle's love expanded even more with the addition of his granddaughter, Hailey.

A highlight of Lyle's was restoring the 1957 Chevy pickup, that once belonged to his father-in-law, John Sundet.  He loved working on cars, tinkering with the mechanics and the doing auto body repair.  Lyle enjoyed the simple things in life: home, family, love of friends, his pets, and the outdoors.  Lyle took pride in his home and was often found working in his garden and tending the yard.  He also enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, and cutting wood.  Lyle was known to do the grilling, but he also loved Carries cooking and never complained when she experimented with new recipes.  They were members of First Lutheran Church in Mahnomen.  He made friends easily with his good nature and friendliness.  Lyle was kind and always willing to help others.  Lyle was a big man with a big heart, truly a gentle giant.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Carrie; his son, Timothy; and granddaughter, Hailey Fjeld; his daughter, Trisha (Alantis) DeOliveira;  and step grandchildren, Lena and Isaiah DeOliveira; two brothers, Clifford Jr. (Dixie) and Roger (Belinda); his sister, Debra (Steve) Winter; brothers-in-law, John (Juanita) Sundet and Rodney (Gayle) Sundet; aunts and uncle, Donald (Laura) Fjeld and Eleanor Fjeld; and many nieces, nephew, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Iris and Clifford; his parents-in-law, John and Bernice Sundet; and a great niece, Madison Johnson.
