Lyla Ruth Larson was born April 15th, 1925 in her parents' farmhouse, south of Ada. Selmer and Anna (Hoven) Larson later had two sons, Glenn (deceased) and Graydon, both of whom farmed like their father, "Sam."

Lyla graduated Ada High School in 1943, and Moorhead State Teachers College in 1948, receiving a BA in English. She taught in many high schools and universities in her life, in Minnesota, California, Norway, Spain, North Dakota, Canada, and finally back in Borup and Crookston.

When Living in Spain in 1961, she met Richard Bernstein of Boston, Mass., and they had a son, Sam, now living in Fargo. He has two children, Corina and Desmond Bernstein, both in Minneapolis.

She is also survived by her brothers' nine children and numerous grand and great-grand nephews and nieces.

Lyla died on November 29th at Benedictine Care Community in Ada.
