Watch Lucille's Funeral

Lucille Roragen, age 94, of Moorhead, MN, formerly Bejou, MN, died on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at Eventide in Moorhead, MN.

Lucille Harriet Barlund, the daughter of Albin and Elma (Solberg) Barlund, was born at home near Erskine, MN, on February 26, 1929.  She grew up on the family farm and attended a country elementary school.  She attended high school in Erskine; graduating in 1947.  Lucille continued her education earning her teacher's certificate in Red Lake Falls, MN.  She taught school in a one room schoolhouse near Erskine.

On November 12, 1949, Lucille was united in marriage to Ernest Roragen at Dovre Lutheran Church in Winger, MN. The couple lived on his parents' farm for two years, then purchased Ernie's grandparent's farmstead, near Bejou.  As their three daughters became of school age, Lucille had an opportunity to continue her work in the educational field when she was recruited by the Bejou School District to work in a new education program.  Upon the Bejou school closing, she was employed with the Mahnomen Public School working as an elementary and special education paraprofessional until her retirement in 1994.  Lucille enjoyed working with children and took great pride in helping them through their educational journey.

In 2015, Lucille and Ernie moved to Eventide Assisted Living in Moorhead. Ernie moved to the Eventide Care Center in March 2016 and passed away on April 19, 2017. Lucille continued to live at Assisted Living and enjoyed her apartment, participated in lots of activities and formed many new friendships. In April 2023, she moved to the Care Center.

Lucille loved gardening, quilting and embroidery.  Reading and crossword puzzles were a daily activity.  Lucille enjoyed traveling and took many trips with family and friends; one of the highlights was a Scandinavian tour.  She was well known for her white sugar cookies and received frequent requests for them.  When her grandsons were young, all four of them would spend a week at the farm--at the same time!  Lots of fun and antics!  She loved her family.  Her memory will be cherished.

Lucille is survived by three daughters: Nancy (David) Kruse of West Fargo, ND, Jane (Robert) Iverson of Glyndon, MN, and Sandy Olson of Lakeville, MN; four grandsons and seven great-grandchildren: Brian (Jessica Camara Saenz) Iverson, Bennett and Elliott of Logrono, Spain, Brad (Sarah) Iverson, Ted and Quinn of Bloomington, MN, Darren (Alicia) Kruse, Max and Elise of West Fargo, ND and Justin Kruse and son, Henry of Fargo, ND; two sisters-in-law, Pearl Uhlir and Audrey Douglas; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and four siblings: Raymond Barlund, Doris Nephew, Carol Lende, and Willard Barlund.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 11, 2023, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bejou.  A Time of Gathering will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.  Inurnment with take at Bejou City Cemetery.
