Obituary

Lucille M. Estey, age 90, of Mahnomen, MN, formerly of Naytahwaush, MN, died at Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home, on Tuesday, March 4, 2014.

Lucille Margaret Robinson, was born August 8, 1923, the oldest daughter of William and Josephine (Warren) Robinson. Growing up, she attended elementary school in Naytahwaush and them furthered her education at the Haskell Institute in Kansas. Following her schooling, Lucille, worked at the Gillette Children's Hospital in St. Paul, MN. While living in the twin cities, she was reacquainted with Clyde Estey. Lucille and Clyde were united in marriage on October 9, 1943, in Minneapolis, MN. The couple moved back to the Naytahwaush area to make their home and start their family. Together, Clyde and Lucille, pastored the church at Ebro, MN.

Over the years, Lucille worked at Beco Originals, Artic Cat Industries, and Nor-Tex, all as a professional seamstress. They lived the majority of their lives on the White Earth Indian Reservation. Clyde died in April of 2000 and Lucille remained at home until 2009 when she entered the nursing home.

Lucille had several hobbies that kept her busy. She was a beautiful seamstress and enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting. When she wasn't sewing, Lucille could often be found outside. She enjoyed walking, bird watching and seasonal activities like mushroom and berry picking, fishing, planting her garden and tending to the flowers. One could never have enough flowers! Lucille loved flowers and gardening. She was very proud of becoming a Master Gardener and sharing the fruits of her labors. She was also featured in the book, "Growing Home". In addition to her flowers, Lucille had a special place in her heart for all animals, especially dogs. She seemed to always have a Pomeranian on her lap.

Family was also a very important part of her life. She treasured the times they could be together and Christmas was her favorite time of year. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Lucille is survived by four daughters: Karen (Gerald) Walz, Duluth, MN, Rebecca Estey, Naytahwaush, Cynthia (Lee) Amundson, Frazee, MN, Pamela (David) Snetsinger, Naytahwaush; three sons: Clyde, Jr., Bradford, and Kent (Becky) all of Naytahwaush; 16 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a very special friend, Susan Gjersvig; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and infant son, Jonathan; four brothers and four sisters.
