Watch Lucy's Memorial Mass

Lucille M. Ellingworth, age 80, of Gary, MN, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, surrounded by her family at Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile, MN.

Lucy was born on March 4, 1943, the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Sorenson) Kappes.  She was born in Borup, MN, and raised in Ada, MN, with her 4 siblings.  She attended Ada public school and graduated with the class of 1961. Lucy talked about her gymnastic abilities and trampoline fun and enjoyed her time in that activity.

On September 21, 1961, she was united in marriage to Phillip LeRoy Ellingworth of Twin Valley, MN, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ada. The newlywed couple made their home in Monroe, WA, where they raised their family.  Lucy did a variety of jobs, from working in the fish factory, mail delivery service, restaurants as well as finding her desire to work with the elderly as a Nursing Assistant in Twin Valley, Mahnomen, and Fertile, MN. Phil and Lucy moved back to Minnesota in 1975, so that the children could get to know their grandparents and Minnesota family.

Lucy was very well known for her intricate doily and needlework. Crocheting was her passion.  If you have potholders, it is more than likely they were made by Lucy.  She loved all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and would light up when she saw them.  Phil made a bird feeder and placed it outside their kitchen window and Lucy bought herself a "Bird Book" to identify all the colorful birds that would feed off their feeder. This included the occasional turkeys, rabbits, squirrels and deer that would take part in their daily meals. In addition, Lucy and Phil are well known for their love of horses and the simple pleasures in life.

Lucy leaves behind her husband of 62 years, Phillip of Gary; 3 daughters: Penny (Linda) Ellingworth of Gary, Lee Ann (John) Harwarth of Grand Rapids, MN, Laureen (Scott) Wentz of Homer, AK, and one son, Todd (Tiffany) Ellingworth of Gary; 9 grandchildren: Samuel Hatoff, Jessica (Matt) Graham, Erica Hamre, Joshua Wentz, Kayla Wentz, Tyler Wentz, Kyle Wentz, Ryker Ellingworth, Ramsey Ellingworth; 6 great-grandchildren: Emma Graham, Charolotte Hamre, Roman Hamre, Gretchen Bain, Nora Bain, Adele Bain; one brother, Joey (Vicki) Kappes of Ada; and many nieces and nephews.

She was proceeded in death by her parents; one brother; and one sister.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023 from 5:00pm to 6:30pm, with a prayer service starting at 6:30pm, at Anderson Family Funeral Home in Twin Valley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 10:00am at St. William Catholic Church in Twin Valley.
