Lowell Conrad Prestegord was born April 5, 1937, the oldest child of LeRoy and Clarice (Morken) Prestegord in Flom Township rural Twin Valley, MN. He grew and attended school in the Flom and Twin Valley communities. As a teenager, he moved to South St. Paul with his family where he attended high school. Lowell excelled in all sports in high school. He played as one of the starting five players on the South St. Paul High School Varsity Basketball team from the time he was a sophomore. After graduating with the Class of 1955, he moved to Amarillo, TX where he started a career as a brick layer. In 1958, he was united in marriage to Jackie Cary. The couple made their home in Amarillo and raised their family. The couple later divorced. Lowell was a foreman with Buccola Masonry for many years while living in Texas. He moved back to South St. Paul, MN in 1988 and continued to work as a brick layer. One of the many projects he worked on while in Minnesota was the construction of the Mall of America. After his retirement, he continued to make his home in South St. Paul.

As a child, Lowell was given an accordion by his mother that he learned to play. This gave him years of pride and pleasure over his lifetime. Lowell loved to play golf and dance in his younger years.
