Lowell "Bud" D. Roof, 77, Fertile, MN, passed away Monday, August 21, 2017 at Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile, MN with his family by his side.

Bud was born August 23, 1939 to Ray and Bernice Roof at home in Woodside Township. He attended Hillside School and graduated from Fertile High School in 1957.  He joined the Navy and was honorably discharged in 1961.  He worked for Russ Buick Company, Fargo, ND and during this time met and married Dorothy Hares on February 29, 1964.  They moved to Hunter, ND where he worked for State Oil and Auto Company and they also owned a Laundromat.

In May of 1966 he began his career with the US Postal Service. He was a mail carrier and a mail supervisor in the Fargo office.  In 1972 they moved to Argusville, ND.  During this time he also attended auctioneer school earning his gavel.  They also managed a 4 lane bowling alley for several years in Flasher.  He retired from the postal service in 1992 and they moved to Fertile.  After moving to Fertile he hauled "The Valley Shopper" for Jerry Jacobson and drove handi-van for R&L Ride Service for several years He also became a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked at Fair Meadow Nursing Home. Bud and Dorothy managed the Farmers Union Campground on Lake Sarah for four years.

Bud was active in the Letters Carriers Association, serving as president for a few years. He served on the board of directors of the East Polk Heritage Center and was an active board member of the Fair Meadow Nursing Home.  He was an active member of the Fertile Lions Club.  He loved the Fertile Fair and missed only one year throughout his entire life.

He is survived by his wife, his daughters Gail (Kent) Schmidt, Leonard, ND and Pam Roof, Fargo ND; 4 grandchildren Joshua (Autumn), Teresa, Jorden (Tori), and Seth (fiancé Caitlinn Harding); 6 great-grandchildren; sisters Lois Haggerty, Fargo, ND and Bernice (Glenn) Solberg, Gully, MN and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Wayne and William Roof and sister-in-law Carol Roof.

Memorial Service: 2:30 PM Saturday, August 26, 2017, at Hope Evangelical Free Church, Fertile, MN.

Visitation: 6:00PM to 8:00PM with a 7:30PM prayer service on Friday, August 25, 2017, at Erikson-Vik-Ganje Funeral Home, Fertile, MN

Burial: Fertile City Cemetery, Fertile, MN.
