Obituary

Louise Moe, age 98, of Twin Valley, MN died peacefully October 2, 2015 at the Twin Valley Living Center surrounded by family.

Louise Bernice Hall was born April 28, 1917 to C.B. (Clarence) and Gladys (Bloomfield) Hall in Decorah, Iowa. In 1924 she moved with her family to rural Ulen, MN and, later, to rural Twin Valley, MN where she attended Home Lake School and graduated from the 8th grade. Louise was confirmed at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ulen, MN by the Reverend A.S. Tanner. In 1931, she moved to Lola, WI with the Tanner family where she attended high school and worked for the Tanners taking care of their home and the Tanner girls whom she came to regard as her dear little sisters. During this time Louise also attended nurses training classes at a nearby hospital for an hour a day over a 3 ½ year period.

On December 10, 1940 Louise married Melvin Moe in Webster, SD. They farmed in rural Hitterdal, MN until moving to the Twin Valley, MN area in 1948 where they continued to farm until 1959. In 1960, Melvin and Louise purchased what would become Moe's Resort on Moe's Bay on the north end of White Earth Lake in northern Becker County. They owned and operated this resort for 13 years -- years which Louise considered some of the most enjoyable in her and Melvin's lives. After selling the resort in 1973, Melvin and Louise moved to rural Twin Valley, MN. The next summer, 1974, they were hired to operate Evergreen Resort on Tulaby Lake. However, later that year Melvin's health was failing, and he passed away May 15, 1975. Louise continued to make her home in rural Twin Valley before moving into a home in town in 1987. In 2011, she entered the Twin Valley Living Center nursing home where she passed away October 2, 2015.

Louise was an excellent cook and seamstress. From her days at the resort, her breakfasts, Sunday chicken dinners, and scrumptious pies remain legendary still. During her lifetime she sewed many confirmation, bridal attendant, and wedding dresses. She was a member of the Lake Grove Lutheran Church while living at White Earth Lake. Later, as a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Twin Valley, MN, she pieced and sewed together over 100 quilt tops as well as finishing quilts for all her children and grandchildren.

Louise is survived by three sons, Johnny (Shirley), Gary, MN; Leonard (Radona Malin), Fairfield, CA; and Bruce (Cindy), Manning, SC; two daughters, Sharon (Ronald) Christensen and Melvina (Gordon) Olson, both of White Earth Lake, Ogema, MN; a son-in-law, Larry Ford, Detroit Lakes, MN; two sisters, Alice Tunks, Mekinock, ND and Evelyn Knutson, Eveleth, MN; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Preceding Louise in death were her parents; her husband, Melvin; two brothers, Dewitt and Emory Hall; six sisters, Dorothy Waller, Helen Dunbar, Mildred Tunks, Lilly Bueng, MaeDean Tunks, and Laura Ellingsworth; a daughter, Loma Ford; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Barnum Moe; a grandson-in-law, Dale Sirjord; and 2 great-grandchildren, Joshua Sirjord and Kenna Olson.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, October 10, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, Twin Valley. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church.
