Lorraine Svobodny, age 82, of Twin Valley, Minnesota, died Sunday, December 7th, 2008 in her home after a short illness.
Lorraine Krebsbach was born April 5th, 1926, one of nine children born to Arthur and Caroline (Klinkhammer) Krebsbach on a farm near Mahnomen, Minnesota. She grew up and attended country school east of Mahnomen. As a young woman, Lorraine continued to live with her family on the farm where she took an active part in caring for her siblings due to her mother's frail health. On January 15th, 1946, Lorraine was united in marriage to Marvin Svobodny in St. Joseph Catholic Church near Beaulieu, Minnesota. The couple made their home east of Twin Valley where they operated a dairy farm for many years. In 1979, they sold their dairy herd and retired. They continued to live there until moving into Twin Valley in 1990. Marvin died November 9th, 1998. Lorraine continued to make her home in Twin Valley since that time.
Lorraine was an active member of St. William Catholic Church in Twin Valley, was a Farmers Union member in earlier years and a Norman County MCCL Pro Life Chapter member. Her favorite past times included playing cards and visiting with friends, but the time she treasured most was the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. Lorraine will long be remembered for her chocolate cake as well as the home cooked meals that she served no matter when someone showed up at her door. She also faithfully attended the Tuesday Morning Club meeting at the local café.
Lorraine is survived by two daughters, Carolyn "Cookie" (Jerry) Minnie and Diane (Kevin) Ruud all of Twin Valley, Minnesota; two sons, David (Becky) Svobodny of Park River, North Dakota and Robert (Gaylene) Svobodny of Twin Valley, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Art Krebsbach, Jr. of Denver, Colorado and Michael (Renay) Krebsbach of Mahnomen, Minnesota; a sister, Carol Pouppirt of Denver, Colorado; her best friend, Avis Korsgaden and an adopted family, Jim & Tina Murn and their family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin; son, Lawrence (Buddy); a granddaughter, Lisa Minnie and a great-grandchild, baby Minnie.
Funeral Services was held on Friday, December 12, 2008, at 10:30 AM in St. William Catholic Church, Twin Valley. Officiating was Fr. Joe DeCrans and Deacon Nick Revier with Monica Winter serving as organist and Mark and Rhoda Habedank serving as vocalists. Pallbearers were all of her grandchildren, Kimberly Harr, Gary Minnie, Jason Minnie, Joe Ruud, Chad Ruud, Sheena Ruud, Nick Svobodny, Tom Svobodny, Josh Svobodny, and Jill Giesler. Honorary pallbearers were her great-grandchildren, Gabe, Hudson, Addison, Reganne, Brooklyn, Brendon, Kinzley, Madeline, Isabella and Jaedynn; the Tuesday Morning Club, Nichole and Bill Tjon, Kacie and Lindsay Murn.
Interment was in St. Michaels Catholic Cemetery, Mahnomen, Minnesota.
