Lorraine Slininger, 89, Ada, MN, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Benedictine Care Community, Ada, Minnesota.
Lorraine was born on July 18, 1924, the daughter of John and Clara (Durling) Benesh, Ada. She was baptized and confirmed at Grace (First) Lutheran Church, Ada, and attended country school in Pleasant View Township, rural Ada. Growing up on the farm she helped with chores and later in her teens she worked at the neighbors caring for their children and doing house work. On April 2, 1944, Lorraine was united in marriage to Russell Ernest Slininger, of rural Twin Valley, MN, and to this marriage five children were born: Carol, Dean, Beverly, Ardell and Eunice.
Lorraine, was involved in many things, she loved bowling and won many trophies. She was a two term president of the Ada VFW Auxiliary and served as Auxiliary Chaplain, and chairman of her ladies aid at Grace Lutheran Church. She belonged to Lake Ida Homemakers, and was named Homemaker of The Year. Lorraine will always be remembered by her family for her warmth, love of her family, and faith in God.
She made the best doughnuts and chocolate chip cookies that her family will miss dearly. She knew the cookie recipe by heart, because she made them every week.
Lorraine is survived by one son, Dean (Antoneta) Slininger, Fargo, ND, three daughters: Carol (Loren) Sturdevant, Glenrock, WY, Ardell (Larry) Wold, Felton, MN, and Eunice Slininger, Ada; son-in-law, Leo Jacobson, Park Rapids, MN, twelve grandchildren: Nadine Sturdevant, Gail (Dave) Sturdevant, Robert (Lynda) Slininger, Tammy (Mike) Schmidt, Angie (Jim) Boisjolie, Wanda (Bob) Terry, Michelle Jacobson, Mike (Lorrie) Jacobson, Mark (Christy) Jacobson, Dennis (Wanda) Wold, Carrie (Jim) Bellemare, and Amanda (Matt) Wold, as well as a special son Robert Miller, Sr. rural Ada, and Lynda Miller and Bobby, Natilee, Emily, Jim and their families. Also surviving are great-grandchildren: Eric, Destiny, Keagan, Jacob, Bree, Bailey, Hailey, Casie, Paige, Parker, Bellamy, Violet, Samantha (Clay), Zachery (Kaylyn), Matthew, Olivia, William, Kilyer, Isacc, Piper and one great-great grandson, Porter due in February, her brothers Marvin Benesh and Clifford Benesh, both of Ada, one sister Janice (Bob) Miller, Casselton, ND, two sisters-in-law: Irene Benesh and Pat Benesh, both of Ada, and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents, husband Russell (2006), daughter Beverly Jacobson, daughter-in-law Lorraine (Granny) Slininger, 3 brothers: Kenny, Arnold, Glen, and 2 sisters: Eleanor (Pete) DeVries and Doris (Russell) Melby, and a very special sister-in-law Betty Benesh.
Funeral: 2:00PM, Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, MN.
Visitation: Monday from 5PM to 7PM, with a 6:30PM prayer service all at Grace Lutheran Church.
Burial: Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
