Lorraine Nelson
Lorraine Nelson, 93, of Halstad, Minnesota, died Monday, March 29, 2010, at Halstad Living Center, Halstad.
Lorraine Marie Hedrich, daughter of Charley and Emma (Zahn) Hedrich, was born at home on April 5, 1916, in Green Meadow Township, near Ada, MN. When she was 10 years old, her family moved to a farm in Spring Creek Township. Lorraine attended county school in Green Meadow and Spring Creek Townships through the eighth grade.
On October 30, 1936, Lorraine was united in marriage to Clifford Nelson, in the parsonage of Shelly Lutheran Church, Shelly, MN. They made their home on a farm near Gary, MN. In 1950, they purchased the family farm in Good Hope Township, Lockhart, MN, and farmed in the Shelly/Lockhart area. They later operated the Shelly Café. They were long time members of Bethany Lutheran Church. Clifford died in July of 1992. Lorraine moved to Halstad in 1995, and became a resident of the Halstad Living Center in October of 2008. Lorraine was known for her sewing and quilting, as well as baking.
Lorraine is survived by five sons, Ronald (Elodie) of Perley, MN, Jerry (Linda) of Hillsboro, ND, Leroy (Georgia) of Hillsboro, ND, Byron (Joan) of Fargo, ND, and Dean (Melanie) of Hillsboro, ND, four sisters: Dorothy Hanson, Ada, MN, Evelyn (Al) Von Holt, Eleveth, MN, Marcella Olson, Crosby, MN, and Helen Nelson, Hillsboro, ND, one brother, Orville (Billy) Hedrich, Hill City, MN, 18 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents, her husband, Clifford, two sons, David and Lawrence, two grandsons, Kevin Nelson and a baby boy Nelson, seven brothers: Clarence, infant Lloyd, infant Edwin, Conrad, Richard, Walter, and Armond, sisters: infant Alice, infant Lillie, Irene Gade, Edna Sannes, Florence Lindstrom, and Edith Trandem.
Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Shelly, MN.
Visitation: Wednesday from 5:00-7:00PM with a Prayer Service at 7:00pm at the Fredrikson Valley Funeral Home, Halstad.
Burial: Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, rural Shelly, MN at a later date.
