Obituary

Lorraine Johnson, age 78, of Mahnomen, MN, died Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at Eventide in Moorhead, MN.

Lorraine Catherine Spaeth was born October 5, 1941, at home to Arthur and Theresa (Blattenbauer).  She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Beaulieu, MN.  Lorraine attended Espy Country School through the 8 th grade and graduated from Waubun High School with the class of 1959.  With the death of her mom when she was only 13 years old, Lorraine was forced to grow up quickly and take on extra duties.  As the oldest child, she gained many responsibilities including looking after her two brothers.  As a young lady, Lorraine entered the workforce and worked for 45+ years and five ownership changes in the pharmacy before retiring in 2008.  She began at the Corner Drug, then Iverson Drug, to Neumann Drug, followed by Thielen Drug and ended with Thrift White Drug.

On March 12, 1963, Lorraine was united in marriage to the love of her life, Robert Johnson.  The couple made their home in Mahnomen where they raised their family.  Lorraine had great compassion and was always a caregiver.  She loved being with family and cooking large meals to share with them.  She had great cooking and baking abilities and after many years finally perfected her fudge recipe!  In Lorraine's younger years, she enjoyed painting ceramics in her spare time.  In November of 2013, her husband of 53 years, JB, passed away and she remained in their home, until moving to Eventide in Moorhead, MN.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Lorraine is survived by two daughters, Sherri (Kelly) Brodsho and Debbie (Kevin) Kowalski, both of Fargo; three grandchildren: Ryan and Erik Brodsho and Noah Hanson; three great-grandchildren: Hendrix, Jameson, and Blakely; two brothers, Leonard Spaeth of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Ronald (Donna) Spaeth of Waubun, MN; sister-in-law, Helen (Arvin) Zilmer of Aurora, MN; nieces and nephews and her canine companion, Annie.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and son, Robert Jr.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen, MN.  Visitation will take place on Friday, June 26, 2020, from 5 - 7 p.m. and one-hour prior to the service at the church.
