Lorraine
Gloe
Mar 16, 1934 — Aug 4, 2023
Mahnomen
Lorraine Gloe, age 89, of Mahnomen, MN, died on Friday, August 4, 2023, at the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home.
Lorraine L. Johnson was born in Tenstrike, MN, on March 16, 1934, to Henry and Pearl (Schutte) Johnson. She grew up and attended school in Blackduck, MN. Following her high school graduation in 1952, Lorraine moved to Minneapolis, MN, and began working at a bank. On October 20, 1956, Lorraine was united in marriage to Arnold Gloe in Minneapolis. The couple was blessed with three children: Cindy, Karri and Bernie. In the fall of 1970, Arnie and Lorraine relocated their family to Mahnomen. They managed the Travelers Motel before owning and operating the Dairy Bar from 1975 until 1977. They then purchased Hausner's Station which they operated until 1981. From 1982 until 1985, Lorraine worked at Slette Home Center. She would end her working career in 2010 after 25 faithful and dedicated years as a Dietary Aide at the Mahnomen Health Center, a job she truly enjoyed. Arnie died unexpectedly in 1989 and Lorraine remained in their home, before moving to her duplex in Green Acres. She moved to assisted living in 2016 and has made her home at the nursing home since 2020.
Lorraine enjoyed the simpler things in life like baking, dancing, tending to her flowers and any time she was able to spend with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also liked gardening, working on craft projects and of course shopping, mostly for shoes and purses. Lorraine had a great sense of humor and was always upbeat and held a positive outlook on everything. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and the Red Hat Society. She will be greatly missed by many.
Lorraine is survived by her daughters, Cindy (Ron) Schafer of Mahnomen, and Karri (Ken) Kemper of Arlington, MN; son, Bernie (Jody) Gloe of Roseau, MN; seven grandchildren: Jared (Jill) Schafer, Erica (Joe) Westbrock, Kaytlin (Mike) Harbin, Sarah (Brent) Reierson, Rachel (CJ) Foeckler, Tyler (Courtney) Gloe and Becca (Sal) Gloe; 14 great-grandchildren; her brother, Carl (Jani) Johnson of Buckeye, AZ; sister-in-law, Sally Johnson of Blackduck; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold; brothers: Herb, Clarence, Ted, and Bud; and sisters, Donna Dufseth and Arlene Johnson.
Blessed be the memory of Lorraine Gloe.
