Obituary

Lorraine Eveslage, age 90, of Mahnomen, MN, died on Sunday, April 13, 2014, at the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home.

Lorraine Elizabeth Liebl, daughter of Peter and Hedwig (Neubauer) Liebl, was born on February 16, 1924 in Mahnomen. She grew up in the Mahnomen area and graduated from Mahnomen High School in 1942.   Lorraine then attended St. John's Nursing School in Fargo and worked at the Mahnomen Hospital as a nurse's aide.   On October 9, 1944 Lorraine was united in marriage to Wilbert "Bert" Eveslage in Bird Island, MN. They began their life together in Mahnomen after Bert's return from WWII in 1946. They spent a few years in the Minneapolis area then returned to make their home in Mahnomen. While raising her family, Lorraine managed the boarding house and cooked at the Oak Crest Ranch near Mahnomen. In the Mid-1960's they opened and operated a paint shop in town. Beginning in the early 1970's, Lorraine began working at the Mahnomen Public School where she served as head cook for many years. She also worked for a time at Dietz Grocery until her retirement. Bert passed away in 2010 and in 2013 Lorraine moved into the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home.

Lorraine loved to read and never missed her weekly trip to the library. She and Bert enjoyed going to auction sales and had a knack for refinishing old furniture. Lorraine was also an avid sports fan especially in cheering for her Minnesota Twins. She was an excellent cook and baker, always making treats for her kids and grandchildren. Lorraine was a member of the St. Michael's ladies aide and the Legion Auxiliary for many years.

Lorraine is survived by four sons: Richard (Ann) of Fargo, Don (Diane) of Mahnomen, Gary (Vicky) of Culpepper, VA, and Glenn (Jean) of Big Lake, MN; two daughters, Gayle (Jon) Raye of Balsam Lake, WI, and Lynn (Jeff) Puhalla of Hawley, MN; one brother, Cletus (Carol) Liebl of Mahnomen; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, David; one great-granddaughter, Amanda Gorder; one brother, Ray; and one sister, Bernadine Ahmann.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2014, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen. Visitation will be at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Sunday, May 4 from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m., with a Prayer Service beginning at 3:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary.

Inurnment will take place at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Mahnomen.
