Lorraine Eklund, 88, of Twin Valley, MN, died Monday, December 11, 2017, at the Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley. Lorraine Martha Bergson was born on July 29, 1929, to James and Lillian (Sabin) Bergson near Ulen, MN. She was the only girl in her family with six brothers. She was raised in faith at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ulen, and was confirmed there in 1944. Lorraine attended school in Ulen, where she graduated high school in 1947. She worked at St. Ansgar Hospital in Moorhead, MN, as a dietary aide in the kitchen during the summer following graduation. She went on to further her education by attending the Western Union Telegraphy School in Fargo, ND. After her graduation in 1948, Lorraine went to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. She later was employed at Manchester Biscuit Company. Lorraine was united in marriage to Merlyn Eklund on May 23, 1953, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead. The couple made their home on a farm east of Twin Valley, where they farmed and raised a family. In 1978, they moved into town in Twin Valley. They continued to farm for several years following the move. After Merlyn's death on May 2, 2000, Lorraine continued to live in their home until 2007 when she moved into the Normandy in Twin Valley. In 2014, Lorraine became a resident of the Twin Valley Living Center and has made her home there since. As a very involved member of the Wild Rice Lutheran Church, Lorraine was active in various organizations within the church. She spent many hours in the church kitchen assisting the other ladies in providing snacks and meals for the congregation and community. Lorraine also spent many hours volunteering with different events at the Twin Valley Living Center for many years. She loved helping other people and spending time with her family and friends. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her. Lorraine is survived by her son, Michael (Val) Eklund, Twin Valley; four daughters: Julie (Wayne) Wenner of Jamestown, ND, Karen Fuglie of Wylie, TX, Karolyn Eklund of Brookings, SD, and Lori (Steven) Skaurud of Twin Valley; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Duane (Gloria) Bergson; and four sisters-in-law: Joann Bergson, Shirley Eklund, Clareen Eklund, and Marilee Eklund. She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and five brothers: Mervin, Jerry, Darold, Milan, and Bruce. Funeral Services were held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 15, 2017 at Wild Rice Lutheran Church, rural Twin Valley with visitation one-hour prior. Visitation Services were held from 5:00pm until 7:00 pm, with a Prayer Service beginning at 6:00 pm, at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Twin Valley, on Thursday, December 14, 2017. Interment took place at the Wild Rice Lutheran Cemetery following the funeral service.
