Obituary

Loretta "Pebbs" Giard, age 57, of Frazee, MN, died on Friday, June 2, 2023, at Frazee Care Center in Frazee, MN.

Loretta Jean Bush was born April 15, 1966, in Detroit Lakes, MN, the daughter of Joseph and Mavis (Wadena) Bush.  She lived with her family in Minneapolis, MN, until 1975 when they returned to Detroit Lakes.  After a short time, they moved to Naytahwaush, MN, to make their home.  Pebbs attended school and graduated from Mahnomen High School with the class of 1984.  She met Thomas Giard and the two were united in marriage.  Pebbs traveled with Tom all over the United States for his employment.  As their family grew, they put down roots in Naytahwaush and raised seven children plus a few others as their own.  She worked for a time as a Blackjack dealer at the Shooting Star Casino, but her main job was a being a devoted mom and grandma.  Always standing up for herself and her children, fighting for what she believed to be the truth.  Loretta would often open her doors to family, friends or strangers, if they were in need.  Her house was always full with laughter and chaos, making her heart full as well.  In 2014, she had a traumatic brain injury that led to her decline in her health and forced her to live the last eight years of her life in a facility.

When she was younger and able, Pebbs was a wonderful cook with her specialty being her fry bread.  She loved spending time with her family.  Pebbs also enjoyed going to the casino and jamming to Prince on the radio.

Loretta is survived by three daughters: Iris (Duriel) Giard of Fargo, ND, Mariah Giard of Shakopee, MN, and Claire (Cliff) Giard of Naytahwaush; two sons, Tommy Giard of New London, OH, and Sonny Porter of Naytahwaush; 19 grandchildren; her mother, Mavis Bush; three sisters: Jana (Rock) Keezer of Naytahwaush, Diane Bush also of Naytahwaush and Stacey Wadena of Crookston, MN; two brothers, Joe "Duke" Bush Jr. of Naytahwaush and Cory Burnette of Crookston; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Bush Sr.; husband, Tom; sons, Jesse and William "Chill"; daughter, Mavis Giard; grandchildren, Conrad Smith Jr. and Jasmine Giard; and sisters: Marie Roman, Teri Londo and infant, Roxanne Bush.

Blessed be the memory of Loretta "Pebbs" Giard.
