Loren J. Rushton, 83, Halstad, MN, previously of Ada and Shelly, MN, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 16, 2015, at the Halstad Living Center in Halstad.
Loren was born in Ada, on January 12, 1932, to the late Donald D. and Charlotte (Christenson) Rushton who owned the "Red Star Café" in Ada. Loren was a member of the First Lutheran Church and attended the Ada Public Schools, graduating in 1950. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and attended radio school. He served proudly aboard various navy ships in the capacity of radioman for more than 20 years. After receiving an Honorable Discharge, he worked for a period of time for a company in San Diego. Loren then returned to Minnesota to enjoy the quiet life. He moved into his sister's home known as "Helens Place" in Shelly. Loren was active with the Shelly VFW and served as Quartermaster for seven years before the organization disbanded. He lived there until around 2008 when he moved to the assisted living community in Halstad where he remained until his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Howard and sister-in-law Sigrid Christenson and sister Helen (Christenson) Prussia.
Loren is survived by his son Derrick and granddaughter Sarah of California, his brother Norman (and wife Nancy) of Methuen, Ma., and several nieces, nephews and many cousins across the country.
The family of Loren wishes to acknowledge the loving care he received while a resident at the nursing home during the last years of his life.
Funeral: 10:30AM Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Fredrikson-Ganje Funeral Home, Halstad, MN.
Visitation: One hour before the service at the funeral home.
Burial: Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
