Lloyd O.
Slette
Apr 6, 1938 — May 1, 2020
East Grand Forks
Lloyd O. Slette, age 82, of East Grand Forks, MN, died on Friday, May 1, 2020, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Lloyd was born on a farm in Fossum Township, Minnesota, on April 6, 1938. He was the only son and middle child of Alfred and Ella (Olman) Slette. He attended country school and later graduated from Twin Valley High School in 1957. Lloyd joined the Army during peacetime and served from 1958-1961. Upon his discharge, Lloyd became an electrical apprentice and, ultimately, a journeyman electrician. He worked locally in Mahnomen, Fargo, Nekoma, ND (while the missile sites were being built), and across the U.S. in Idaho, Washington, Colorado, and the great state of Texas, before finally retiring from the Grand Forks Air Force Base, where he inspected missile silos for approximately 18 years.
Lloyd married Bonnie Norby in June 1967. They welcomed two children, Stacy and Scott. Lloyd enjoyed singing at weddings and funerals, the Lord's Prayer and Amazing Grace were two of his favorites, watching the Minnesota Vikings, assisting seniors at the EGF Senior Center with technology, and was a wiz at dominoes. After Bonnie retired, they enjoyed several trips to Arizona to escape the Minnesota winters. They also traveled to Washington, DC, and Chicago, IL, to visit their children. Lloyd had several hospitalizations over his later years but always kept the hospital staff entertained; so much so that the staff checked in on him when they weren't assigned to him.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Bonnie, his children, daughter Stacy, and son Scott, two sisters, LaVerne Samshal and Arlene Bushie, sister in-laws, Geri (Dave) Paul, Janet Tremel, and brother-in-law, Larry (Kathy) Norby. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law, brothers-in-law, Wayne Norby, Wally Bushie, John Tremel, and Milan Samshal, and son-in-law, Rod Burke.
