Obituary

Lloyd Larson, age 101, of Gary, MN, died Wednesday, September 21, 2016, in Essentia Health, Ada, MN.

Lloyd Garfield Larson, the son of Louis and Hulda (Tollerud) Larson, was born on August 13, 1915, in Kittson County, MN. At the age of two he moved with his family to Flaming, MN. He grew up on farm near Flaming and attended country school there. As a teenager, Lloyd's family relocated to Ada, MN, where he helped work on the family farm. In 1941, Lloyd married Alice Turner and they were blessed with one daughter, Judy. Lloyd farmed near Ada for several years before purchasing a farm near Gary. Following his divorce, Lloyd continued to operate his farm, raising both dairy cattle and crops. In the early 1950's, Lloyd became good friends with the neighboring Lisburg family. Over the years, Marion Lisburg and Lloyd had become good friends and have made their home together for over twenty years. About 15 years ago, Lloyd sold his farm to his grandson, Rob. From that time, he had continued to enjoy watching the crops be put in and harvested in the fall. Lloyd also loved going to the casino. For many years, Lloyd, Marion, and his daughter, Judy, would make regular trips to the Casino each week, cherishing the company as much as the gambling. As a staunch Norwegian, Lloyd often appeared to have a hard exterior, but his tender smile showed his softer side. He truly treasured time spent with his family, friends, and grandchildren. He also had a special place in his heart for his pets, especially his cat, Sammy.

Lloyd is survived by his dear friend, Marion of Gary; one grandson, Rob (Monica) Lisburg of Gary; two granddaughters, Susan (Mark) Hanson of Ada, and Diane (Tim) Jagol of Fertile; a sister, Agnes Jensen of Puyallup, WA; seven great-grandchildren: Cora Hanson, Shantel and Cooper Jagol, and Kelsey, Kyle, Korey, and Kasy Lisburg; and two great-great-grandchildren, Kaislyn and Hadley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Albert Lisburg; two brothers, Chester and Alan; two sisters, Janis Rier and Gladys Luchau; and an infant granddaughter.
