Lloyd Gunderson, age 93, of Detroit Lakes, MN, died Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at St. Mary's Essentia Hospital in Detroit Lakes.

Lloyd Burton Gunderson was born September 21, 1927, to Bennie and Louise (Sirjord) Gunderson in Bear Park Township on his grandparent's farm, Ole and Marie Gunderson.  As a young child, Lloyd spent time on the farm in rural Gary, MN, until the family moved to Wolf Point, MT, in 1930.  Then in 1936, they moved back to rural Gary.

On December 21,1950, Lloyd was united in marriage to Eunice Thronson.  The couple made their home in Bejou, MN.  They were blessed with four children: Gary, Lucille, Lucinda and Roxann.  Lloyd owned and operated Gunderson Trucking.

In 1968, Lloyd went to Alaska where he ran his own truck that he bought in Seattle, WA.  It was his all-time favorite truck, a brand new 1973 Cab Over Pete Orange in color!  He then went to work for S&G Construction, working on the North Slope for the next 12 Years.  Eunice continued to run Gunderson Trucking back in Minnesota.

Lloyd continued trucking until fully retiring in 1996.  Lloyd and Eunice settled in Detroit Lakes in 1982.  They made many good friends and had long visits at the kitchen table with his Mrs. making many pots of coffee.

Even after retiring, Lloyd remained very active.  His hobbies included auction sales, old ford tractors, and anything Volkswagen.  He loved snowmobiling and 4-wheeling with family and friends.  Lloyd even purchased a newer 4-wheeler in October of 2020 and managed to put on 1200 miles before his death in November.

Lloyd is survived by his children: Gary (Barb) Gunderson of Frazee, MN, Lucille (Mike Leu) Beckley of West Fargo, ND, and Lucinda (Richard) Liebelt of Detroit Lakes; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers: Robert (Doreen) Gunderson, Harlow (Cathy) Gunderson both of Mahnomen, and Ole (Deanna) Gunderson of Gary and many nieces and nephews.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice, of 67 years; his parents, Bennie and Louise Gunderson; daughter, Roxann; granddaughter, AunaLaye; sister, Myrtle Aakhus; sister-in-law, Marilyn Svenby; and brother-in-law, Ordale Thronson.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bejou, MN.    A time of gathering will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will take place at Norman Cemetery, rural Gary, MN.

Following all Covid-19 safety protocols, social distancing will be practiced. The services will be recorded and available for viewing online shortly after the service.
