Watch Linda's Funeral Mass

Linda Schumann, age 70, of Waubun, MN, died on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at her home under the loving care of her family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Linda Marie Messer was born in Richardton, ND, the youngest child born to Michael and Magdalen (Reisenauer) Messer.  Her youth was spent growing up and helping on the family farm while attending parochial school.  Linda then graduated from Richardton High School with the Class of 1972.  On September 15, 1973, Linda was united in marriage to Douglas Schumann in Richardton.  The newlyweds made their home in Bismarck, where they welcomed their daughter, Leah, in 1974.  In August of 1976, the young family tried the California lifestyle, moving to Santa Barbara, CA, only to return to the Bismarck area after one month.  In 1978, they completed their family with the birth of their son, Dean. The family continued to live in the Bismarck area until 1979, when they transitioned to Lincoln, ND, just outside of Bismarck. Then in 1984, Doug's employment took the family to Dickinson, ND, where Linda worked as a florist at Gaffney Floral, a job which ignited her love for flowers.  In 1997, Doug and Linda moved to their permanent home on Little Bemidji Lake, bringing ownership of Rainbow Resort back to family by partnering with Mike and Amy Schumann.

Linda possessed many wonderful qualities that made her the compassionate, fun loving, organized leader she was.  She was continually doing for others, giving helpful advice and had genuine care for their well-being and needs long before the needs of herself.  She was humble and strong in her faith, not wavering even with her cancer diagnosis, staying positive and upbeat for many years.  Linda had a great love for not only her family and friends but also for the farm where she grew up and the resort she called home.  Pouring her heart and soul into all aspects of the resort, Linda cooked, cleaned, organized large group gatherings, took photos and compiled scrap books for the guests, decorated the cabins, making home improvements as she went and most importantly making sure the flower beds and pots were abundant and endless!  Her love for flowers was evident and her talent in decorating, both inside and out was unmatched.  In addition, she enjoyed feeding and watching the many types of birds that would frequent her feeders.  Linda will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know and love her but live on in their heart forever.

Linda is survived by her husband, Doug, of Waubun; son, Dean (Jen) Schumann of Detroit Lakes, MN; daughter, Leah Sand of Waubun; three grandchildren: Jacob (Keana) Sand, Rachel (Fiancé, Breck Ehlers) Sand and Evan Schumann; two brothers, Ben (Eva) Messer of Richardton, ND and David (Sheila) Messer of Bismarck, ND; two sisters, Elvera (Freddie) Frank and Lil (Gene) Zimmerman both of Bismarck; and brother-in-law, Keith (Ann) Schumann; in addition to several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Blessed be the memory of Linda Marie Schumann.
