Linda M. Opheim, 73, Fargo, ND, formerly of Ada, MN, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at Sanford Health in Fargo.
Linda was born on August 29, 1951 to Sidney and Betty Brekke. She was raised on her family dairy farm in Barronett, Wisconsin. She graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1973 with a registered nurse degree. She practiced her nursing skills at St. Mary's Hospital in Minneapolis and in the Ada Municipal Hospital before she began her public nursing career with Norman-Mahnomen Public Health. She served for several years as the school nurse with Ada-Borup Public and Norman County West Schools. Her love of children was evident in her care and support for the students in those schools. She also was responsible for creating the Norman County Emergency Preparedness Plan. She retired from public health nursing in 2012.
Linda met the love of her life, Tom Opheim, in 1972 and they were married in 1973. They enjoyed 50 years of marital bliss together. They moved to Ada in 1975 and lived there until 2021 when they moved to Fargo. They were blessed with four wonderful children and five amazing grandchildren.
Linda was an avid and dedicated gardener. Her farm upbringing was evident in both her flower and vegetable gardens. She was an active member of the Ada Garden Club. She also was active with her children in 4-H and scouting. Linda was a devout Christian who lived her life with love, caring and understanding. Grace Lutheran Church in Ada was her church home where she taught Sunday school and ushered. She enjoyed crafts such as hardinger, crocheting, and knitting.
Linda was a very social person, always helping people, visiting neighbors and her numerous friends. She made friends wherever she went and was loved by all.
Linda is survived by her husband Tom, her four children and five grandchildren: Jennifer and grandson Matteo (age 5); Dr. Thomas E. Opheim (Tigist) and grandchildren Tinsae (age 16) and Thomas (age 12); Dr. Daniel Opheim (Shawna) and grandchildren Hailey (age 9) and Hannah (age 11 months), and Timothy (Sara).
