Linda Howard, age 77, of Mahnomen, MN, died on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home, Mahnomen, MN.

Linda Mae Howard was born June 19, 1948, in Grand Rapids, MN, the daughter of James Howard and Jessie Hamner.  She graduated from Greenway High School with the Class of 1967.  Following graduation, Linda moved to Minneapolis, MN, and began working as a housekeeper.  While in the Twin Cities, Linda met Lyle Thompson and the couple moved back to the White Earth Reservation.  They made their home in Ponsford, MN, and were blessed with one son, Neil.  Lyle passed away in 2008 and Linda remained living on the reservation.  She later spent several years with longtime companion, Jim Bush, in Naytahwaush, MN, before her declining health forced her to move into the nursing home.

Over the years, Linda enjoyed visiting with family and friends, playing cards and Bingo.  She also spent her time putting together puzzles, reading and partaking in the many activities at the nursing home.

Linda is survived by her son, Neil Howard of Mahnomen; brother James Howard Jr. of Palm Desert, CA; sisters: Judith (Russell) Grandstrand of Stephen, MN, Rosalyn (Lloyd) Schueller of St. Cloud, MN, and Dolly Clune of Grand Rapids, MN; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her companion, Lyle Thompson; step-son, Kenny Thompson; step-daughter, Laura Thompson; sisters, Lucille Rock and Bonnie Mrozek.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home in Mahnomen.
