Lilyann
Roed
May 7, 1925 — Apr 17, 2017
LilyAnn Evelyn (Flermoen) Roed, 92, of Brooklyn Center, MN, formerly of Winger, MN, died on Monday, April 17, 2017, in Brooklyn Center, MN. She was born on April 7, 1925, in St. Paul, MN, the first of children born to Olaus Llewellyn "O.L." and Ellen Ester (Erickson) Flermoen. As a small child, LilyAnn moved with her family to the Winger, MN area. LilyAnn graduated from McIntosh High School, McIntosh, MN, in 1942. LilyAnn went on to Teacher Training in Brainerd, MN. In the summer of 1940, LilyAnn met Orvis Jerome Roed, while they both worked for a farmer during the summer.
On June 19, 1945, LilyAnn was united in marriage to Jerome Roed (it was his 22nd birthday) in Gosen Lutheran Church, rural Winger. Their son, Jerome Kenneth Roed, was born May, 2, 1946. Shortly after, 1947, they moved to Detroit, MI, where Orvis worked for Ford Manufacturing. In 1949, they moved back to Minnesota to the farm. Their second son, Leon Orvis, was born February 3, 1950, but unfortunately he died of a heart defect at three days of age. Their third child, Carol Ellen, was born March 22,1951, in Crookston, MN. In 1955, the family moved to Halstad, MN, where Orvis worked at the Farmers Elevator, later becoming the manager. LilyAnn taught at Herberger School, a one room school house, teaching 1-5 grade. February of 1960, Orvis and family moved to Gully, MN, where Orvis managed the elevator and LilyAnn taught in a one room school, Trail Grade School, grades 1-3. In 1965, the family moved to Moorhead, MN. LilyAnn took college classes in Bemidji, MN and Moorhead State University, graduating the same year as her son, Jerry, in 1968 with a degree in Early Education, Special Education and Library Science. She commuted to Hunter, ND, in 1968 and changed her career path to working in Moorhead, then the Fargo Public Library, and the NDSU library until Orvis' death in 1978. His death shook LilyAnn and she took a job at MSU Food Service (to have a mindless, physical job). After getting on her feet, she took a teaching/Library job in Argyle, MN, until she retired in 1990.
In 1995, LilyAnn had a once-in-a-lifetime trip with her daughter, Carol. The Lutheran Heritage Tour with the Wold family members toured Germany West and East, Denmark, and a cruise boat to Norway visiting Oslo and Bergen. After retirement, she lived in Erskine,MN, Moorhead, MN and Detroit Lakes, MN, then lastly, in Brooklyn Center, MN, in a memory care unit. She died after a brief time on Hospice.
In LilyAnn's early retirement years, she was always active in church and community life. She organized the church library, served on the board of Christian Women, organized her 70th Class Reunion, was a Befriender, and always a Bible Study Leader. She loved her Poodle Mitzi. LilyAnn loved her family, instilling Christian Values, she forgave easily, loved freely, always organized, a faithful friend and will be missed by all.
