Jun 29, 1924 — Jan 22, 2025
Fargo
Lillian Rose Winter - Loving mother of Duane, Ron, Bev, and Curt.
Lillian Winter, age 100, of Fargo, ND, died on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at St. Catherines North Nursing Home, Fargo, ND, surrounded by loved ones.
Lillian was born on June 29, 1924, to Frank and Elizabeth (Schwegman) Walz in Lake Grove Township, rural Waubun, MN. She grew up on a family farm and attended Adams Country School. Lillian was united in marriage to Herman Winter on September 14, 1943 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Waubun. Lillian worked side-by-side with her husband in their grocery and hardware store from 1966 to 1981.
Lillian laid the foundation of love and faith in her family, always leading with unconditional love and grace. She was a believer in Jesus Christ as her savior and turned to him in all circumstances. Lillian was a long-time member of St. Ann's Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters. She was also a member of St. Ann's Ladies' Society.
She loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, playing cards, music, and dancing. She also enjoyed playing her guitar and singing with family, usually on Sunday afternoons. Most important in Lillian's life was her family. She cherished each of them and especially doted over her grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Left to cherish Lillian's memory is her daughter, Bev (Dan) Hunt of Moorhead, MN; daughter-in-law, Delores (Ron) Winter of Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren: Brent Ambuehl of Moorhead, Kelly (George) Stage of Moorhead, Troy (Sara) Winter of Moorhead, Trisha (Merrit) Olson of Thief River Falls, and Tony (Becky) Winter of Thief River Falls; great-grandchildren: Zachary, Ethan, Jayce, Dylan, Samantha, Lexi, Gabe, Ian, Morgan, Maddie, and Ellie; great-great grandchildren: Jaalen, Liam, and Brooks; and many beloved extended family members.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Elizabeth Walz; husband, Herman Winter; sons: Duane, Ronald, and Curtis; brothers: Harold, Lindy, Merrill, and Ralph; sisters, Alvira and Betty; great-granddaughter, Abbigail Winter; and numerous other family.
A special thank you to Susan Richardson - a dear friend of Bev's and a volunteer with Hospice of the Red River Valley. The care and love she gave to Lillian during the end of her life's journey was outstanding and deeply appreciated.
Blessed be the memory of Lillian Winter.
