Obituary

Lila A. Anderson, 94, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 3 at Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen, MN, with her family at her side.

Lila Adeline Berland was born in rural Lake Park, MN, on August 30, 1921, to Henry and Agnes (Grani) Berland. She grew up and attended school near Lake Park, where she graduated at the age of 16. On June 13, 1948, Lila married Russell Anderson at Houglum Lutheran Church near Lake Park. They had four children, and farmed the Anderson Homestead near Rollag, MN, until moving to Ulen in 1965. Lila received her teaching degree from Moorhead State and taught in three different one-room school houses in Cormorant, Rollag and Rothsay, before teaching at Ulen-Hitterdal Public Schools for 22 years, inspiring the love of learning to many students. Lila had a strong faith and was Sunday school superintendent at Rollag Lutheran for many years. She was a current member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ulen, where she was very active in keeping the quilting ministry alive. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking, gardening, playing cards and traveling, but most of all, spending time with her family and friends. In her 94 years, she touched many lives, taught so much, and loved endlessly. Should we all be so lucky to live such a full life.

Lila is survived by her daughter-in-law, Nina Anderson of Friday Harbor, WA; daughter, Shirley Anderson of Tower City, ND; son, Lonnie (Sue) Anderson of Ulen, MN; daughter, LoAyne (Robby) Voigt of Mohall, ND; her grandchildren, Jason (Toni) Anderson of Moorhead, MN; Jeanine (Brian) Peterson of El Paso, TX; Kyle Anderson of Fargo, ND; Kristin (William) Johnson of West Fargo, ND; Lucas (MeLissa) Anderson of Fargo, ND; and Cassandra, Allison and Aaron Voigt of Mohall, ND; and many great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister, her husband, Russell, sister, Agnes, and son, Harlan.

Memorials may be directed toward the National Parkinson Foundation, Hospice of the Red River Valley, or the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Quilters of Ulen.
