Leonard Swanson, 96, of Ocala, FL, formerly of Fertile, MN, died Thursday, November 11, 2010, in Ocala, FL.

Mr. Swanson was born March 14, 1914, at Fertile, MN, the son of Theodore and Elizabeth (Lundeen) Swenson. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church near Fertile. Leonard attended Roadside Country School. He moved to Minneapolis, MN, where he worked as a carpenter in Civilian Conservation Camps in southern Minnesota. In 1935, he moved to Los Angeles, CA, where he worked he attended Fletcher Aircraft School. He then moved to Pasadena, CA, where worked at Lockheed Aircraft as a toolmaker and machinist.

In Fertile on June 18, 1940, he married Charlotte Gullickson. They lived in California for a short time and then relocated to Wichita, KS, where they raised their family and lived nearly 30 years. Leonard was employed at Cessna Aircraft Company while in Kansas. In 1971, they returned to Fertile, where they farmed their land in Norman County until retirement in 1985. In 2001, they moved to Ocala, FL.

Leonard was a former member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Wichita, KS and when they returned to live in Fertile, he became a member of Little Norway Lutheran Church near Fertile.
After retiring, they purchased a cabin on Leech Lake, near Walker, MN, where they enjoyed fishing and gardening in the summer. Leonard enjoyed fishing, gardening, and woodworking. He was very active in his garden this summer in Ocala, FL.

Leonard is survived by his two daughters: Lavon Joyce, Lewes, Delaware, and Cheryl Davis, Ocala, Florida; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte, of 62 years, seven brothers: Adolph, Albin, August, Bernard, Carl, William, and Raymond; three sisters: Evelyn McBurney, Elaine Sirjord, and Esther Swenson; and a granddaughter, Angela Brooke Davis.

Funeral services will be at 11:00am on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Little Norway Lutheran Church, Fertile, MN. Visitation will be one hour before the services at the church.
Burial will be at Little Norway Lutheran Cemetery.
