Watch Leonard's Prayer Service
Leonard H. Blaser Sr, age 87, of Andover MN, went to meet his Lord on Sunday, August 1, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Anoka, MN, surrounded by his loving family.
Leonard (lovingly known as "Sonny" while growing up) was born on November 12, 1933 to John and Gertrude "Gertie" Blaser in Beaulieu, MN. He grew up on the family farm with his two sisters, Loretta and Marcella. While on the farm, Leonard valued his relationship with God and his family and developed a strong work ethic. He left home at the age of 17 and worked on an Iron Range before joining the Marine Corps in March of 1956. Leonard was proud of his service and of his time at Camp Pendleton, CA.
After his service, he returned to the family farm for a short time before moving to Minneapolis, MN. In 1961, Leonard married Blanche Rose Maruska and they had eight children together. Lenny worked at FMC (BAE Systems) for 30 years as a hazardous materials handler, medic, fire and security officer. In 1968, he moved to Andover where he raised his family. 1992, Leonard met and later married Sandra Jean Franklin, his co-pilot, with whom he shared 26 years of marriage, while making their home in Andover.
Leonard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed gardening and was especially proud of his roses. Leonard was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed teaching and sharing his passion for deer hunting with his children and grandchildren. The time Leonard spent with his family in the woods, at family gatherings, or just visiting was also spent imparting wisdom, mentoring, and making joyous memories. He loved having dance parties with his family and "shaving" with his grandchildren. With his wife Sandra, he enjoyed dancing, loved her cooking, especially her chocolate cake, and spent many hours in the kitchen helping her with the canning and making venison jerky.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Sandra Blaser; sons: Richard (Angela) Blaser, Leonard Blaser Jr., Blake Bakken, and Andy (Rachel) Franklin; daughters: Marcy (Todd) Dalen, Andrea (Jeff) Aukes, Terri (Bryan) May, Roberta (Todd) Gulickson, Chari Cox, and Vanessa Franklin; 18 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Loretta Meyer; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gertrude Blaser; children, Victoria Rose and Michael Joseph Blaser; sister, Marcella Busse; and grandson, Ryan Blake Bakken.
