Leonard W.
Loerzel
Nov 8, 1936 — Apr 17, 2018
Ulen
Leonard Loerzel, age 81, of Ulen, MN, died Tuesday, April 17, 2018, in the Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley, MN, under the care of hospice of Red River Valley.
Leonard William, the son of Frank and Sophia Loerzel, was born on November 8, 1936 in Corliss Township, near Dent, MN. He grew up and attended school there. As a young man, Leonard served in the United States Army where he was honorably discharged in 1962. Leonard lived in many different places following work and his busy life. Most of his years were spent trucking as an over-the-road owner/operator. For the past 25 years, Leonard has followed his true passion of running a small farm. He raised beef cattle and sold eggs to area neighbors. Most of all, Leonard loved being surrounded by his animals as he tended to the cattle, goats, chickens, ducks and geese. He named them all and made sure each of their needs were met, often before his own. He also cherished his housemates of several cats and his faithful canine companion, Mugsy. Just recently, Leonard moved into assisted living at the Twin Valley Living Center to make his home.
Leonard is survived by four sons: Kevin (special friend, Tina) of Thief River Falls, MN, Bradley of Fargo, Brian (Marisa) of Moorhead, and Shannon of Smithville, MO; three daughters: Renee (Daniel) Waling of Pinewood, MN, Wanda Waling and Sharon Loerzel, both of Red Lake Falls, MN; three brothers: Francis of Carver, MN; Arthur Joseph of Tamuning, Guam, and John (Grace) of Hermosa, SD; a sister-in-law, Marge of Roseville; several grandchildren and many great grandchildren; as well as a "ton" of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Raymond, Arthur, Bernard and Clarence; and sisters, Marie Rogers, Magdalene Schik and Sister Mary Cabrini.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018 at 1:00 PM in the Anderson Family Funeral Home, Twin Valley. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will take place at St. Henry's Catholic Cemetery in Perham, MN.
