Leonard Ashing, age 83, of Bagley, MN, formerly Lengby, MN, died on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at Cornerstone Nursing Home in Bagley.

Leonard Earl was born December 14, 1935, one of ten children born to John and Elsie (Portz) Ashing.  He grew up in the Pine Bend area where he attended school.  Following his schooling, Leonard entered the work force as a young man.  He worked as a general laborer and then as a logger for several years.  Following a debilitating stroke, Leonard was forced to retire early.  He made his home at a few different assisted living facilities before spending his past three years at Cornerstone Nursing Home in Bagley.

Leonard had a great sense of humor and was a bit of a jokester at times.  In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball, horseshoes, jacks and sledding.  Leonard loved playing cards, mainly Whist and Smear, and visiting with neighbors and friends and therefore he didn't spend much time at home.  Growing up, Leonard was a member of the Pine Bend Methodist Church and when he moved to Fosston, MN, he attended church at Fosston United Methodist Church.  In recent years, he liked listening to country music, audio books, watching movies and daily activities at the nursing home including worship services.  Leonard will be missed by many especially all his nieces and nephews that he was looked upon as a great teacher and example.

Leonard is survived by two sisters, Ann Coyer of Bagley, MN, and Kathy Johnson of New Brighton, MN; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elsie; four brothers: Lloyd, Roy, Leo, and Johnny; and three sisters: infant Royce Ashing, Beatrice King and Ethel Keim.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2019, at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen, MN. Visitation will take place at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen, MN, on Friday, November 15, 2019, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service beginning at 6:30 p.m. and one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Pine Bend Cemetery, rural Lengby, MN.
