Obituary

Leona Neset, age 82, of Twin Valley, Minnesota, died Monday, November 30, 2009, at the Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley.

Leona Marilyn Nelson was born April 10, 1927, the daughter of August and Cora (Holkesvig) Nelson in Portland, North Dakota, where she was raised on a farm. She attended country school near Roseville and graduated from Portland High School. Leona worked various jobs in the Portland area as well as providing child care to local families. On June 15, 1947, Leona was united in marriage to Virgil Neset in the Roseville Church at Portland. The couple made their home near Hillsboro, North Dakota for a few years before moving to a farm near Gary, Minnesota. Leona was employed as a Nurses Assistant at the Retirement Center in Twin Valley for a few years and also employed at the Creamery Restaurant in Ada, Minnesota, for a time. She lived on the farm until moving into the Twin Valley Living Center in 1999, where she currently resided.

Leona was an active homemaker raising seven children, helping with the farming, milking and she had a love of gardening. Many friends and neighbors bought eggs from her over the years.

Leona is survived by her husband of 62 years, Virgil Neset of Twin Valley, MN; two sons, Carter (Twilla) Neset of Glyndon, MN and Clyde Neset of Gary, MN; five daughters, Marjory (Floyd) Folz of Ada, MN, Linda (Richard) Thom of Perham, MN, Kathleen (Wayne) Thom of Twin Valley, MN, Lori (Bruce) VonHoldt of Bemidji, MN and Julie (Dennis) Bekkerus of Gary, MN; 21 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Virgil (Edna) Nelson of Gary, Leon (Inez) Nelson and Dean (Jane) Nelson all of Portland, ND and a sister, Alda Ellefson of Isanti, MN.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 2nd at 2:00 in the Anderson Funeral Home, Twin Valley. Visitation will be one hour before services at the funeral home on Wednesday. Officiating will be Pastor Wayne Thom with Monica Winter providing the music. Honorary pallbearers will be all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Inurnment will be in the Bethel Swedish Cemetery, rural Twin Valley, Minnesota.
