Leola Widme, age 99, of Twin Valley, MN, died Monday, January 19, 2015 in Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley.
Leola Adeline Erickson was born August 21, 1915, the daughter of Oscar and Ada (LaFayette) Erickson on the family farm near Twin Valley. She was baptized and confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church. Leola attended rural school and graduated from Twin Valley High School with the class of 1935. Leola furthered her education at Normal School in Ada, MN, and taught in rural schools in Norman County for seven years.
On June 10, 1939, Leola was united in marriage to Mayneth Widme at the Wild Rice Parsonage. In their early years, the couple made their home in the Carolinas, where they were both employed. They later moved to Chicago, where Leola was employed as a waitress. The couple returned to the Twin Valley area and purchased the Fossum Store which they operated for several years. Leola and Mayneth then moved into Twin Valley where they owned and operated the Standard Oil Station for many years. In April of 2001, Leola became a resident of the Twin Valley Living Center where she had continued to make her home. Mayneth passed away on October 27, 2010.
Leola was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, member of the church women organization and the quilting organization. Leola and Mayneth traveled extensively, visiting every state in the United States, except Hawaii and for several years, they enjoyed wintering in Arizona.
Leola is survived by her sister, Luverne (Calman) Bredman of Ada, MN and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mayneth; three brothers: Leonard, Lester and Oscar; six sisters: Laurel Carroll, Lorraine Burnette, Lila Arnold, Lourena Kjos, Nellie Skaurud and Nina Waller.
Funeral Services were held on Friday, January 23, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church Twin Valley. Visitation was Thursday January 22, 2105, from 5-7 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. at the Anderson Family Funeral Home, Twin Valley and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Interment was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Twin Valley.
