Lawrence "Guy" Folstrom Jr., age 14, of Mahnomen, MN, died Monday October 3, 2011 at his home.
Lawrence Wahdenah Folstrom Jr. was born on April 13, 1997, in Detroit Lakes, MN, the son of Lawrence "Tab" and Denise (Wadena) Folstrom. At birth, Lawrence was given his Indian name, Wahdenah, meaning "Little Round Hill", however he was known by most of his friends and family as Guy. He grew up east of Mahnomen and attended Mahnomen Public Schools. Guy was always working: mowing lawn, babysitting and helping others, especially the elders of the community. He loved spending time with little kids, especially his nieces and nephews. In his spare time he liked playing Xbox, hunting, fishing, riding the 3-wheeler, and ricing. He also had a special place in his heart for his animals and took wonderful care of his dog, cat and horse. Guy was a hard working, caring young man who enjoyed the most spending time with family and friends.
Guy is survived by his parents; a brother, Daniel Folstrom of Flandreau, SD; three sisters: Melena Folstrom of Flandreau, Jacklyn Folstrom, and Priscilla Folstrom, both of Mahnomen; grandma, Karen Wadena of Naytahwaush, MN; great-grandma, Olive Blair of Detroit Lakes, MN; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Pearl Folstrom; grandfathers, Charles Folstrom and John Wadena; and his brother, John Folstrom.
