Lawrence
Lavoy
May 22, 1982 — Jun 2, 2021
Shevlin
Lawrence LaVoy, age 39, of Shevlin, MN, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at his home.
Lawrence Sidney LaVoy, the son of Roy and Lizabeth "Betsy" (Kennedy) LaVoy, was born on May 22, 1982 in Detroit Lakes, MN. Lawrence was baptized and later confirmed at St. Anne's Catholic Church. He grew up in the Naytahwaush, MN, community and graduated from Mahnomen High School with the class of 2000. Lawrence was incredibly gifted with technology, GPS, and computers and he thrived to learn as much as he could. He worked at the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen, for many years, beginning in security and moving into the surveillance department. He often helped his friends and neighbors install and operate security systems. Lawrence met the love of his life, Stephanie Morey, and in 2013 the couple was married. Together they have made their home in Shevlin. He worked at Walmart for a time before enrolling in Northwest Technical College in Bemidji, MN. He earned his degree as an electrician and has been employed in the electrical department at Home Depot, in Bemidji, since 2017. He enjoyed working with his colleagues and helping customers figure out their electrical needs. Lawrence had a generous heart and respected the needs of those around him. As a child and into adulthood, he spent much of his time with family and his elders, lending a helping hand. He also loved to be outdoors, fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling. He learned to play guitar and found joy in music. Lawrence was motivated to try new things and never let anything stop him. He especially enjoyed walking and being in the woods with his family and cherished his time with his closest nephew and niece, Julian and Ginny. Being Ginny's Godfather was one of Lawrence's greatest honors. His faith was quietly evident in his daily life and shown throughout his actions. Leaving too soon, Lawrence will be greatly missed by so many, until they meet again.
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Stephanie LaVoy of Shevlin; his parents, Roy and Betsy LaVoy of Naytahwaush; his mother-in-law, Shelva Morey; sister-in-law, Cassie (John) Gillson; brother-in-law, Scott (Monica) Morey; aunts & uncles: John (Ann) LaVoy, Ruth Foss, Sidney LaVoy, Mary Kennedy, Eileen (Earl) McDougall, Ed Kennedy, Helen Steiner, Jim (Wendy) Kennedy, and Nora Lee Kennedy; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
He was reunited in heaven with his infant brother, Joseph; his grandparents: Sidney and Gerda LaVoy and Alvin and Margie Kennedy; his father-in-law, Donald Morey; aunts and uncles: Jeanette LaGue, Rita Bjorge, Lawrence LaVoy, Gerald LaVoy, Brian Emmett Kennedy, Ida Shields, Alvina First Rider, and Alvin Leslie Kennedy; and two dear cousins, Maggie McDougall and Spud McDougall; as well as many other cousins and extended family members.
