Lavon Rice's Obituary
Lavon Rice, 84, of Fertile, MN, died on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at the Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile, MN. She was born on January 30, 1931, to Even and Ragna (Noto) Lee at Gary, MN. Lavon was baptized and confirmed at the Gary Lutheran Church, Gary, MN. She attended school at the Gary School District.
On June 19, 1948, Lavon was united in marriage to Arlin Rice at her home in Gary, MN. They lived in Fertile, where they raised their family. Over the years, Lavon worked for Fairway Foods Store, Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Dr. Sjulson DDS, with her husband at the Fertilizer plant, and as a caretaker for Summer Field Apartments.
She lived at SunShine Court before moving to the nursing home.
Lavon was a member Concordia Lutheran Church and was active in the altar Guild, the church's circles and WELCA. She was a member of the Concordia's Library Committee and a homemaker's club. As a youngster, she was a "Tomboy" preferring to be outside rather than inside. Lavon was a great cook who enjoyed watching others appreciate her food. Together, Lavon and Arlin would travel, listen to the Minnesota Twins, and watch Lawrence Welk. She liked to read and take walks. In her later years, Lavon appreciated dinner on Sunday's at Lakeview Restaurant. Lavon and Arlin made a great team as they raised their children. Lavon loved her family and was especially proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lavon is survived by her six children: Cindy (Eddie) Leiser, Fertile; Kerry (Nancy), Buxton, ND; Renee (Keith) Schendel, San Diego, CA; Tom (Debbie), Hampton, MN; Kevin (Shelley), Fertile; and Monica (Bill) Bandy, Waterloo, IL; 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Janet Skretvedt, Ada, MN. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arlin, March 28, 1993, one great-grandson, Levi, siblings: Alice Tarvestad, Ervin, Orlin, and Viola Sollie.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, September 12, 2015, 11 AM in the Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile, MN.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 11, 2015, at the Erikson-Vik-Ganje Funeral Home, Fertile, MN, from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM.
Burial will be in the Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, Fertile, MN.
