Laurena Slininger, age 78, of Twin Valley, MN, died Friday, December 16, 2011 in Bridges Care Community, Ada, MN.
Laurena Jane Warnsholz was born March 14, 1933, the daughter of Arthur and Clara (Hagenah) Warnsholz in Green Meadow Township, near Ada, MN. She was raised there and attended school in that area. Laurena was baptized and confirmed her faith at St. John's Lutheran Church where she was an active member all of her life. On June 17, 1950, Laurena was united in marriage to Burton Slininger at St. John's Lutheran church parsonage. The couple made their home first in Twin Valley, then for a short time in Omaha, NE before returning to the Twin Valley and Ada communities where they began farming. In1966, they purchased the farm where they currently live. During that time she was active in all parts of the farm operation. Laurena was employed by Don Ogaard at Ada Implement for several years as a bookkeeper. She was a township assessor from 1978 until 2003 for the townships of Green Meadow, Hagne, Rockwell and Lake Ida.
Laurena was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she taught Bible school, was a Sunday school teacher and was church treasurer for many years. She was an active member of the 4-H club where she was a Key Leader as well as an Adult Leader. She was active in the Lake Ida Homemakers. Laurena was also instrumental with helping with the Drevlow Scholarship for several years
Some of Laurena's favorite past times included sewing, playing cards and a good game of dominoes. She enjoyed family reunions and treasured the time she spent with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Laurena is survived by her husband of 61 years, Burton of Twin Valley, MN; son, Donald (Lynelle) of Mahnomen, MN; daughters, Judy Fugleberg of Fargo, ND, Dianne Peterson of Ada, MN, Joyce Zak of East Grand Forks, MN; a brother, Merlyn (Ellen) Warnsholz of Welch, MN; sister-in-law, Vivian Warnsholz of Detroit Lakes, MN; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Daryl and Ronald, two sisters, Dorothy Fredenberg and DeLane Myers, and four grandsons, Mitchell Slininger and Scott, Monte and Phillip Zak.
Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, December 21st, 2011 at 11:00 AM in St. John's Lutheran Church, Green Meadow Township, rural Ada. Visitation was Tuesday, December 20th from 4-7 PM with a Prayer Service at 6 PM all in the church. Visitation was also one hour before services at the church on Wednesday. Officiating was Pastor Arvid Salvhus with Lori Salvhus serving as organist and DeeDee Greive serving as vocalist. Pallbearers were Willard Gade, Glen Brandt, Bob Brandt, Wes Brandt, Howard Neumann and Dean Bennefeld. Honorary pallbearers were all of her nieces and nephews and Klaus Rubin of Denmark. Burial was in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ada, MN.
