Laura Ingeborg Johnson, 95, of Fertile, MN died on Monday, September 3, 2018, with her family at her side at Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile. She was born on May 17, 1923, to Claus and Anna (Olson) Johnson in Anthony Township, Norman County, Minnesota. She attended country school. In 1938, Laura moved with her family to Waukon Township, where she worked on the family farm.

On October 1, 1949, Laura was united in marriage to Ralph M. Johnson at the Faaberg Lutheran Church Parsonage in Rindal, MN. Together, they operated a dairy farm and raised three children: Ronald, Carol, and Sharon.   In the 1970's, she worked as a housekeeper at Fair Meadow Nursing Home alongside her sister, Esther. Later, they both did house cleaning for area families.

Laura was baptized and confirmed at East Marsh River Lutheran Church, was a member of Ness Lutheran and following her marriage, joined Faaberg Lutheran where she was an active member of Circle #3. On the farm, she always had a huge garden and did a lot of canning. She baked thousands of loaves of homemade bread, cookies, cakes, pies, donuts, and during the holidays, lefsa and rosettes. Her favorite time of the day was afternoon coffee with something sweet.   She raised chickens and sold eggs, tended to pigs and cattle and helped in the barn with milking. Ralph and Laura lived on the family farm until 1994, when they moved to Fertile. Laura entered Fair Meadow Nursing Home in August of 2011.

Laura was an avid sports fan, following the Gopher and Viking football teams; but she was most passionate about the Twins. She quilted, embroidered, sewed many clothes for her family, and crocheted beautiful doilies, tablecloths, bedspreads and afghans. In later years, she loved feeding and watching birds, and was always eager to play a game of Scrabble.

Laura is survived by her children: Ron, Moorhead, MN, Carol (Michael) Petersen, Fertile, MN, and Sharon (Douglas) Ehlers, Morris, MN;   six grandchildren: Garrett (Megan) Petersen, Garth (Mari) Petersen, Christa Petersen (Channing Sandberg), Emily (Zachary) Nelson, Benjamin Ehlers, and Wade Ehlers; and eight great-grandchildren: Will, Ida, Cora, Malayna, Esiah, Shallan, Cooper, and Isaac. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Louis (1955) husband Ralph (2004), and one sister Esther Olson (2005).

Funeral: 10:30AM Friday, September 7, 2018, at Faaberg Lutheran Church, Rindal, MN.

Visitation: Thursday, September 6 ^th from 5:00-7:00pm with a Prayer Service at 6:30pm at the Erikson-Vik-Ganje Funeral Home, Fertile, MN.

Interment: Faaberg Lutheran Cemetery, Rindal, MN.
