Larry Simonson, 74, Twin Valley, MN, died on Thursday, December 19, 2019, at the Mahnomen Medical Center, Mahnomen, MN.
Larry Dean Simonson was born December 6, 1945 in San Francisco, California, the son of Lyle and Donna (Lunde) Simonson. As a child, he moved to Flom, MN, where he grew up. He attended country school and later Waubun High School where he graduated with the class of 1963. As a young man, he moved back to California where he worked as a tiler. After a short time, he returned to the Flom community where he began working with his dad on the dairy farm. On February 28, 1965, he was united in marriage to Joan Sally Hermann. Larry and Sally made their home near Flom and raised their 5 children. After selling the farm in 1982, he became a truck driver where he drove throughout the Midwest. In 1987, Larry married Judy Christenson and they made their home in Dilworth. Together they had one daughter. On November 20, 1992, Larry married Joanne (Joey) LaFriniere and the couple made their home near Flom, MN. Larry retired at the age of 61 due to his health. Joey and Larry moved to Twin Valley to make their home. Joey passed away on April 12, 2012.
Larry was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan and loved playing cards. He also enjoyed gardening, reading and will long be remembered for his love of his cats.
He is survived by his four daughters: Karen Fladung of Sartell, MN, Wanda (Bundee) Leinen of Waconia, MN, Nicole (Roy) Simonson of Dilworth, MN, and Kerry Ann (Jim) Kenney of Rice Lake, Wisconsin; two sons, Terry of Warroad, MN, and David (Alison) of St. Michael, MN; one sister, Loma Gullingsrud of Twin Valley, MN; his step mother, Joyce Simonson of Gary; step sisters, Tayna Waldo and Crystal Stene; 15 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and dear friends, Herb and Deb Kuball. Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Joey; and his parents.
