LaDonna Thompson, 80, Twin Valley, MN died on Tuesday June 13, 2017 in Essentia Hospital, Ada, MN. LaDonna Mae was born May, 5, 1937 at Ft. Peck, MT and was lovingly adopted by Ole and Alice (Tomtengen) Hadland as an infant. She lived in Montana with her parents until 1939 when they moved to the Twin Valley-Flom community. As a child, she attended the Cheerful Nook County School for the first six years. LaDonna then attended the Waubun, MN, school where she graduated with the class of 1955. As a teenager, LaDonna was active in 4-H and her church. After high school, she was employed as a receptionist for a plumbing company in Fargo, ND. On February 12, 1956 LaDonna was united in marriage to Jerome Thompson at the Aspelund Lutheran Church, Flom. They made their home in Dent, MN for a few years before returning to the Twin Valley area. Together, they farmed and also operated the Flom Café for six years until the cafe was destroyed in a fire. LaDonna then went to work at the Twin Valley Nursing Home, as a TMA, where she was employed for 32 years. After 56 years of marriage, Jerome passed away on April 9, 2012 and LaDonna had continued to make her home on the farm with family nearby. LaDonna loved to visit with family and friends. She often reminisced and shared stories of her younger years. She was especially proud to have been a candidate for Princess of the Milky Way, and loved to tell the story about when she was a baby, President Franklin Roosevelt kissed her on the check while he attended the dedication of the Ft. Peck Dam. Over the years, LaDonna was an active member of Aspelund Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school, held several offices with the Ladies Aid, and participated in the afternoon bible study group. She loved sports and spent hours cheering at her grandchildren's and great grandchildren's baseball, football and volleyball games. More recently, she enjoyed time at the lake fishing and spending time watching and listening to the loons. LaDonna also enjoyed traveling to see her family, and dancing whenever she and Jerome could. She was known for her cooking and the buns she made for the community to enjoy. She is survived by three sons, Jerri (Dove), Twin Valley, Jim (Karen), Twin Valley, and Jeff (Tiffany), Waite Park, MN; a special friend, Melvin Maha of Twin Valley, MN, who she thought of as a fourth son; 17 Grandchildren and 21 Great Grandchildren. LaDonna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jerome; five children: Sonja, twin girls, Cheryl and Cherrie, and two infant stillborn sons; and a grandson, Jeremy.
