Remembering the Life of Kirk Skaurud

Kirk Skaurud, age 23 of Gary, MN, died Saturday November 30, 2013, as a result of a motor vehicle accident.

Kirk Francis Skaurud, son of Kelly & Vicki (Opsahl) Skaurud, was born on October 3, 1990, in Fargo, ND. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley, MN. Even before he went to school, he loved being on the farm. Kirk attended school at Norman County East Schools and graduated with the Class of 2009. As a student, he participated in athletics, lettering in Football, Basketball and Baseball. He enjoyed being a percussionist in the band and singing in the choir. Kirk chose to study Farm Operation & Management at Ridgewater College in Willmar, MN, and received an AAS degree in May 2013.

Kirk loved the farm and everything about farming. He was proud to be a part of Skaurud Grain Farms. He enjoyed summers at the cabin on Tulaby Lake, spending time with family and friends around the campfire. His latest passion was spending time in the woods with his game cams.

Kirk gave his family lots of love and laughter. He was a proud and loving uncle to Madi, Hayden, Jack & Carter (his godson).

He was passionate about music, especially country music, and always knew which artists were going to be popular before anyone else. He loved going to concerts, his favorite was We Fest.

Kirk met the love of his life, Marie, in 2010. Kirk and Marie shared so many wonderful moments and special days together. He loved venturing south to spend time with the McArthur Family and Ogema community, who had adopted him as one of their own.

Kirk is survived by his parents, Kelly and Vicki Skaurud of Gary; one brother, Evan (Tracee Winter) Skaurud of Twin Valley; two sisters, Kate (Dan) Frazer of Deerfield Beach, FL, and Krista (Ryan) Andring of Hawley, MN; his soulmate, Marie McArthur of Ogema, MN; grandparents: Clayton and Phyllis Skaurud and Eldred and Norma Opsahl all of Twin Valley; aunts and uncles: Perry (Kathleen) Skaurud of Gary, Cheryl (Myron) Anderson of Twin Valley, Sandy (Mark) Bergeson of Canton, MI, Ross (Rhonda) Opsahl of Twin Valley, and Jeff (Deb) Opsahl of Twin Valley; his nieces and nephews: Madison, Hayden and Carter Andring and Jack Frazer and several cousins. He was preceded in death by one uncle, Scott Opsahl.

Funeral Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley, MN.

Visitation was Friday, December 6, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., at Zion Lutheran Church.

Interment took place at Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
