Kevin
Zahl
Aug 11, 1964 — Dec 14, 2021
Winger
Kevin Reed Zahl, 57 of Winger, MN, passed away on December 14, 2021, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND. He was born August 11, 1964, in Fosston, MN, the fourth child of Marvin and Arlene (Vesledahl) Zahl. Kevin attended high school in McIntosh, MN. He enjoyed his childhood on the family farm and dreamed of following his father's footsteps as a farmer, while driving an International Harvester.
Kevin stepped into the role of farmer, at a very young age, following the passing of his father. During this time, he farmed, kept his mother on her toes, employed his friends, won a few arm-wrestling matches and pushed the limits of more than one Chevy truck, all with a grin on his face and his childish charm.
After a decade running the farm, Kevin's path took a turn to Ashby, MN, where he co-owned and ran the local grocery store. Kevin greatly enjoyed his time in Ashby, where he worked the meat counter, selling his signature item, Zman's secret summer sausage, while charming the locals with his wit and smile.
Following a successful run as a grocer, Kevin made his way back home to Winger and founded Zahl Construction which specialized in building pole barns throughout the region. After the passing of his beloved mother, Kevin moved back to the Zahl farm and began farming the family land.
Kevin was a kind-hearted, giving individual that would take the "tank top" off his back for anyone. He wasn't afraid to let loose, enjoy company and good laughs. Kevin was truly full of life and embraced his legendary role as the "Z" man. To pass his time, he enjoyed watching the Vikings (well most of the time), dominating in a game of Scrabble, growing a garden that could feed a small village and getting a rise out of his family and friends. Kevin was an exceptional friend, and as we said when he passed, "to know him, was to love him." Cheers to an amazing, wild, craaaaazy and fun-loving man.
Kevin is survived by a daughter, Ashley Finke of St. Hilaire, MN; three grandchildren: Kenzie, Maverick and Joey; two sisters, Patty (John) Morrison of Erskine, MN, and Renae Rohl of Fargo; aunts and uncles: Roger Zahl of Halstad, MN, Marvie and Ray Stromstad of Beltrami, MN, and Gladys Crower of South Dakota; and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; a sister, Marsha Zahl and several aunts and uncles.
Blessed be the memory of Kevin Zahl.
