Kevin "Nates" Lee Mahto

Beloved son, father, brother and uncle began his journey to the Spirit world on November 22, 2024.  After a short battle with cancer, he passed quietly in his sleep.

Kevin was born on November 24, 1950, to Eunice Marie Mahto (nee King) and Teddy DeWitt Mahto Jr. in Ft. Yates, N.D.

As a Jr. in High School he was the high point man in basketball scoring 49 points  in 1 game. He was also good in football and baseball lettering in all 3 sports.

After graduating from High School in 1969, Nates went to Macalester College, St. Paul, MN, and Austin State College, Austin, MN.  He played basketball for Austin State and became good friends with "Bud", a relationship that lasted 40+ years.  Nates was clean and sober 20+ years when he passed away. He was very proud of this accomplishment and gave thanks to Creator and marijuana for it!

After he left college life, Nates worked in many different arenas.  He fixed Ronson cigarette lighters, he mopped floors and settled in being a warehouseman for many years.  Nates had a good mind for numbers making him very good in this field.  He retired from gaming at 65.

Nates enjoyed anything to do with motorcycles, grilling out, fishing, family, Country & Western music, NBA, NFL, MLB, NASCAR, horse racing.  The nurses at Sanford said he was always flirting!

Kevin was proceeded in death by both of his parents, sister Toni, Special friends, Chip and Mike.

He is survived by his 1967 Triumph Royal 750, a very beautiful Native art collection, a daughter, Simone Ann Ericson and a daughter, Antoinette Marie Mahto, sister Lori DeFoe, brothers: Jamison, Sean and Robin Mahto, several nieces and nephews. Honorable mention goes to his nephew, James Manspeaker.
