Kent Mjelde, 62, rural Erskine, MN, died on Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at Riverview Hospital, Crookston, MN.
Kent Anthony Mjelde was born July 12, 1950, to Ira and Marjorie (Ophus) Mjelde in Crookston. The family moved to Moorhead, MN, where Kent attended Moorhead public schools and Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in Fergus Falls. He graduated from Moorhead High School in 1968. After graduation Kent attended and studied social work at UND, in Grand Forks, ND.
Kent spent most of his years in the construction trade, the last several years at Opp Construction in Grand Forks. Kent and Deb Iverson were married on December 27, 2002, at Rodnes Lutheran Church, rural Erskine, MN.
Kent enjoyed his hobbies including crochet tournaments and being a Scrabble master and champion. He had a creative vision for working with building materials. He was a connoisseur of French press coffee, and had an eagle eye for spotting local diners. Kent was an avid reader, and he enjoyed contemporary Christian music. He attended Expo '72 in Texas, which encouraged his Christian walk and quiet one-on-one ministry.

his life, Deb Mjelde, Erskine, MN; her children, Kathryn (Michael) Mavis, Des Moines, IA; Tracy Mottram, Des Moines, IA; Brett Pederson, Red Wing, MN; granddaughter, Stella Neve, grandson, Josiah Scott; his parents, Ira and Marjorie Mjelde, Erskine, MN; sisters, Jan Wader, Pasadena, CA; Beth Mjelde, Maple Bay, MN; Dawn (Eric) Jones, Glendora, CA; a brother, Mark Mjelde, Minnetrista, MN; brother-in-law, David Wader, Altadena, CA; nephew, Joshua (Andrea) Wader, niece, Anna Wader, great niece, Karli Grace Wader, all from Altadena, CA; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Also left to survive are brothers, Joe and Ryan Mountain, Grand Forks, ND, who Kent helped mentor and who fondly referred to him as "Dad." Kent was preceded in death by his grandparents, Norman and Marie Mjelde and Harry and Anne Ophus.
Funeral service: 11:00am Monday, August 13, 2012 in Rodnes Lutheran Church, rural Erskine, MN.
Visitation: Sunday from 5:00-7:00pm with a Prayer Service at 7:00pm in Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile, MN.
Burial: Rodnes Lutheran Cemetery, rural Erskine, MN.
