Obituary

Kenneth D. Skauge, 86, Fergus Falls, MN, formally Twin Valley, MN, died Wednesday, May 20 2009 at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls, MN.
Kenneth D. Skauge was born Feburay 26, 1923 in Sacred Heart, MN, the son of John and Laura (Larsen) Skauge. He grew up in that community, attended school and graduated from Sacred Heart High School. In school, Ken lettered and was captain of the football and basketball teams.
After high school, Kenneth received a scholarship, attended Luther College for one year and then transferred to the University of Minnesota. During World War II, Ken joined the Army Air Corps where he was trained as a pilot. He was stationed in Italy during the war and flew over 30 combat missions in a P-38 fighter aircraft. He was awarded the Air Medal following his service. After the end of World War II and his discharge in 1945, he returned to college, this time at the University of Wyoming, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree.
Ken was united in marriage to LuCille Erickson on December 23, 1949 in Lovell, Wyoming. They made their home in Lovell for four years, where Ken was a high school teacher. Ken and Lu moved to Belcourt, ND, where he taught for one year before moving to Twin Valley. Ken taught at Twin Valley High School for thirty years. While there, he taught vocational agriculture, science, and math. He was the Twin Valley City Treasurer for over thirty years. He also did income tax work in the community.
Kenneth was very involved in the Twin Valley community. He was an active member at the Zion Lutheran church. He was a member of the American Legion where he was a Commander and played an important part in starting the Legion Baseball Program. He was also a member of the Lions Club. He was an avid bowler and golfer, proud of his two Holes-In-One. Ken loved the outdoors and looked forward to hunting and fishing trips.
Kenneth is survived by his wife LuCille, Fergus Falls, MN, one daughter, Lynne( Dr. Don Simonson, Winnipeg, Manitoba) one son, Steve ( Cindy Skauge, Fergus Falls, MN) and six grandchildren; Tony, Tyler, Todd, and Tara Skauge, and Isaac and Ivan Simonson.
He was preceded in death by one infant son, five brothers and one sister.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, Twin Valley, MN. Pastor Charlie Bade officiated with Alden Anderson as organist. Monica Winter and Dr. Keith Erickson each sang solos. Burial was in the Twin Valley Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the Twin Valley Nesseth-Lien Post #431 of the American Legion.
