Obituary

Kenneth Sather, 85, of Fertile, MN, died on Sunday, February 8, 2015, at the Riverview Hospital, Crookston, MN.

Peter Sather and Kristi Fagerbak were married in Trondheim, Norway in April, 1928. After their marriage they immigrated to Melvin, MN which is just northwest of Fertile. They later moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota where Kenneth Paul Sather was born on April 12, 1929. Kenneth's mother, Kristi died in childbirth.

On September 30, 1930, Kenney's father married Anna Tronvoll, also from Norway. Anna became Kenneth's new mother. In 1932, Kenny's family moved to a farm near Melvin. Kenny attended country school, District 10, which was across the field from his home. He was confirmed in the Varnes Lutheran Church and was a longtime member.

Kenny worked on the family farm helping his father with farm work. Later on he worked for various farmers as farm labor. About 1960 he started working for the Leo Lindberg family. Over the years, the Lindberg's became like family to Kenny, especially the children. For several years, Kenny lived at the Fertile Hotel, where Orville and Ilahbelle Flaaten made a welcome home for him.

In 1992, Kenneth came to live at the Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile. The staff at Fair Meadow also became like a family to him. Kenny called bingo, helped out in the craft room, did some odd jobs, and enjoyed going for van rides. Kenny was fun to be around. He always greeted you with a big smile. He brought life and joy to many people.

Kenny is survived by his sister, Sylvia (Gerald) Wavrin, Wyoming, MN.

He is also survived by a nephew, Jeff Wavrin, nieces, Joni Kroska and Jill Grindahl, grand nieces; Meghan, Anna and Emilie, grand nephews; Christerpher, Matt, Mitchell, Travis, Robby and Ryan, great grand nephew, Desmond and cousins Ingmar Lilleflött (Reidum—in Norway) and Al Satter (Marge). Also several other relatives in Norway.
