Obituary

Kenneth Lee, age 76, of Gary, MN, died Thursday, August 02, 2012, at Riverview Health in Crookston, MN.

Kenneth Dawain Lee, the son of Otto and Ruby (Boe) Lee, was born on May 18, 1936 in Anthony Township, rural Ada, MN. Kenny was baptized and confirmed his faith at East Marsh River Church near his home. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Halstad, MN. As a young man, he helped on area farms and worked for a time at Aarstad Potato Products. On December 28, 1958 Kenny was united in marriage to Ellen Maltrud in Ada and the couple was blessed with one son, Kent. Together they made their home Northwest of Gary for over 50 years. Kenny farmed and operated dairy cattle until a barn fire in 1998 encouraged his retirement. In 2008, Kenny and Ellen moved to their current home Northeast of Gary but Kenny continued to have cattle and kept busy around the farmstead.

Kenny greatly enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Each day he looked forward to hearing the news at the Gary C-Store coffee table and at Senior Meals each noon. Every Saturday, Kenny eagerly headed off to his "job" at the Winger Sales barn. Over his career, he developed many great friendships with area cattlemen while attending sales. Kenny loved to go for drives and play Bingo when he had time. Kenny was also a longtime member of the Eagles Club in Crookston.

Kenny is survived by his wife, Ellen of Gary; one son, Kent (Sandy Quade) of Fargo, ND; two brothers, Steven Lee of Ada and Ronald (Toni) Lee of Fargo, ND; sister-in-law, Alice (Wayne) Davis of Grand Forks, ND; and two brothers-in-law, Paul (Carole) Maltrud of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Richard (Nancy) Maltrud of Los Alamos, NM; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Ruby; his in-laws, Herman and Louise Maltrud; two nephews, Michael Maltrud and Jason Lee; and one niece, Kari Maltrud.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at 10:30 AM in Gary Lutheran Church, Gary. Visitation was Monday from 5 to 7 with a Prayer Service at 6:30 at the Anderson Funeral Home, Twin Valley. Visitation was also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
