Kenneth A. Kappes, 77, Ada, Minnesota, died Sunday, February 5, 2012, at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, North Dakota.
Kenneth (Kenny) A. Kappes was born February 11, 1934, in Ada, MN, the son of Anthony and Anna (Platt) Kappes. He grew up and attended country school. He served in the Army for two years and in the reserves for six years. Kenny was united in marriage to Shirley K. Knutson on November 12, 1956, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ada. They were blessed with six children. After grieving the loss of his first wife, he was blessed to find love with Shirley Underdahl of Twin Valley, MN. They married on April 8, 2000. Kenny worked as a mechanic for many years at Arnold's Auto Shop. He was also employed at Midwest Gas Transmission and retired from there in 1996. He enjoyed tinkering in the shop, loved playing golf and shot a hole-in-one at the Green Meadow Golf Course in Moorhead, Minnesota, horseshoes and playing cards. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all.
Kenny is survived by his wife of nearly 12 years, Shirley; four daughters: Debbie (William) Thompson, Grand Forks, ND; Jane Heimdahl, Des Moines, IA; Sue (Ken) Skalsky, Powell, WY; Carol (Joel) Gwin, Ada; two sons: Steve (Dixie) Kappes, Fargo, and John (Shelley) Kappes, Ada; sixteen grandchildren: Matthew, Ryan, Daniel, and Kayla Thompson; Kenny, Annie and Kitty Heimdahl; Brock Kappes; Andrew (Michelle) Kappes, Aaron (Nichole) Kappes, Alex and Katy Kappes; Jessica (JW) Heny and Joey Skalsky; Nicholas and Anjana Gwin; great grandchildren: Jamison Little, Carson Kappes, Joe Kappes and James Heny. A stepson Brian Underdahl, Casper, WY, stepdaughters: Tammy (Tom) Dunbar, Twin Valley, MN, Angie (Kevin) Korsgaden, Twin Valley, MN; Nancy Voss, Waubun; step-grandchildren: Brian Jr. and Sasha Lynch, Derrick Dunbar, Chassidy Robinson, Jessica and Tim Lieble, Kayla and Michael Korsgaden, Tyler, Tanner, Tori and Tate Voss; step-great grandchildren: Blake Underdahl, Zoe and Hunter Dunbar and Zane Robinson; three sisters: Catherine Munkirs, Pelican Rapids, MN, Marie Anderson, Naytahwaush, MN, and Theresa Brandtl, Breckenridge, MN; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Shirley, an infant daughter, his parents, his brothers: Al, Orville, Leonard, Mark, Edward, Charles, and sisters: Frances and Elizabeth.
Funeral Service: 10:30 am, Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ada, MN.
Visitation: Wednesday, Feb 8th from 5:00-7:00pm with a Prayer Service at 7:00pm at the church.
Burial: Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
