Kenneth Jon
Helm
Jun 7, 1948 — Aug 19, 2017
Fertile, MN
Kenneth "Kenny" Jon Helm, 69, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017 at his home in rural Fertile, MN.
Kenneth Jon Helm was born June 7th, 1948, the son of Henry and Margaret (Larson) Helm.
Kenny attended Fertile Beltrami School. He was drafted into the Army in March of 1968, and was sent over to Vietnam. In July 1969 he was medically discharged due to stepping next a landmine. The landmine caused him to be paralyzed on the right side. He was a SP4/E4.
On October 31, 1976 Kenny married Pamela Peters from Mapleton, MN. Kenny adopted her 2 year old son, Hans Christopher. Kenny purchased the land next to his parents homestead, and started making his family. Throughout the next few years Kenny had 3 daughters Amy, Thora, and Rebekah.
Kenny enjoyed being out in the country. He loved nature, and being able to see it from his living room window. Throughout the years he had done some trapping, and raccoon hunting. He mainly trapped pocket gophers, or as he called them "pesky ground squirrels".
Kenny worked for the Bergeson Nursery off and on for many years throughout his life. He grew up working there as his parents, and other siblings worked there at some point in their lives. It was a job that he enjoyed as it was mostly outside. Kenny was involved with antiques, post card collection, and again trapping here and there with Jamy Fuglseth. Genealogy was also a passion of his. Kenny's grandkids meant the world to him, and he talked whole-heartedly about them.
He is survived by Hans (Laura) Helm, Amy (Adam) Roed, Thora Branden, and Rebekah (Nate) Hawkinson, his 12 grandchildren, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Kenny was preceded in death by Henry (father), Margaret (mother), Henrietta Jane (sister), Charlotte (sister), and LaDonna (Donna-sister).
