Kenneth G. Bregel was born June 10, 1934 in Mahnomen, MN, the son of Leonard and Mildred (Blaser) Bregel. He attended St. Michael's Catholic School and graduated from Mahnomen High School in 1952. Ken furthered his education at the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, MN. He returned to the Mahnomen area and worked with his father at Bregel Electric. On August 31, 1957 Kenneth was united in marriage to Yvonne Kersting at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Waubun. In January of 1958, Ken took a job with Ecolab and they made their home in Brainerd for two years. The couple then moved to Moorhead, MN, where Ken continued to work for Ecolab. He proudly worked for 38+ years with Ecolab and was a key player in the establishment of the Fargo/Moorhead branch of Ecolab. In 1996, Ken retired and they built their home on White Earth Lake where they have lived since. After a short time and declining health, Kenneth died Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN, at the age of 77.
For many years, Ken was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Moorhead followed by St. Ann's Catholic Church in Waubun. He was also a life member of the Knights of Columbus. Ken was a snowmobiling enthusiast, especially for older models and Ski-Doos. He held membership with the Naytahwaush Nightriders and also the National Antique Snowmobile Club. He thoroughly enjoyed snowmobiling most of his life and in retirement he began restoring them. When he wasn't on or working with a sled, Ken also enjoyed fishing and hunting, particularly deer, with his son and grandsons.
Ken is survived by his wife, Yvonne, of Waubun; a son, Jeff Bregel of Moorhead; two daughters, Melanie (Ken) Kramer also of Moorhead and Jena Bregel of Waubun; four grandchildren: Matt (Kari) Kramer of Ada, MN, Mike (Julia) Kramer of Moorhead, Caycee Bregel of Grand Forks, ND and Breanna Bregel of Carrington, ND; and one brother-in-law, Tom Frame of Marine, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mildred Frame.
A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 10:30 am at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Waubun. A Time of Gathering will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 from 5-7 pm with a prayer service and rosary at 6:30 pm all at the Anderson~Mattson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
